Just because you ask, "What does this have to do with the reason I was pulled in?" does not mean you have to do so with an attitude.
Nor does it mean doing so WITH an attitude.
Why do people automatically think that just because you don't kowtow willingly to police you automatically have an attitude or are anti-cop.

And when you signed for your CDL at the license branch you should realize that driving a commercial vehicle allows them to stop and question you for ANY reason they feel the need to do. It's legal and their right as you are now operating under the guidelines of the FMCSA and DOT. He was just asking you instead of asking for your log book. Just be glad he was asking instead of getting the creeper out

Regardless of the 'details', how difficult is it to answer a few questions?
Unless and until your rights are actually violated by an enforcement action taken based on illegally obtained evidence, you have no cause of action. Once those rights are violated, THEN you can have your attorneys argue the probable cause aspects. That's what happened with the MHP. They screwed up, got dragged into court and got their butts spanked. In public. Antagonizing them at the roadside accomplishes nothing but getting yourself additional delays and increased scrutiny.

I don't pick any fights.
There is NOTHING immigrant about asking an officer to articulate his probable cause at anytime. It keeps you both honest.
Last time I checked, we were in the United States of America. As such, I am not REQUIRED to answer questions in the format of "Papers please.".
We are a free society and the police and LEO's still have guidelines they must work within.
My RIGHTS are greater than their job.
I WILL actively protect those rights. -
I do not know where ou run, but here in Ca they are CHP Officers manning the scales. If they think a driver looks tired or in any case not fit to drive they have full authority to question you, besides log book voilations are one of the things they are looking for.
If ou give the a hard time you will find your truck in the inspection bay, All I'm saying is this a battle our going to lose, and it is not about your right to drive, that is not a right it is a privilege and these are the people that can make i real difficult for you.
Better to wait for a battle ou have a chance of winning.
And by the way you are not the only vet here now driving a truck. I'm 3rd generation Navy, and have and will fight to protect the Constitution of this country, Keeping the highways safe for everybody is a good idea. -
I understand this, but what I was saying is, whats the difference if he asks you the last time you had a rest period compared to saying "show me your log book". There is none, and he has every right to ask you about when you took your 10hr break....
And you gave him probable cause to ask you questions by going over-weight on your axle. If you had been legal, then there would have been no reason to pull you around. Don't contradict yourself
