Sacramento to nevada to idaho.been a busy couple days.i have a excellent trainer.i like the way Melton runs their trainers.all day they are in passenger seat, truck is not ran as a team truck.i have done all the driving and backing.he waits for me to ask for help before saying anything.to me it's easier to learn that way instead of them directing you step by step.that way you can learn from your mistakes.I don't mean to sound like a fan boy but I am glad l chose Melton(and they chose me)
Finally at melton

I went with cotc even made a post here couple weeks ago. Good that you didn’t go because out of 5 of us everyone left by the third day as there is no organized training or anything. Since it and Smokey point got bought out by a Canadian conglomerate it’s a mess. Good you took Melton. I’m considering melton myself.

Honestly man it is what you make of it. I got into trucking in 2004 and I was 26. Did it for a year with Schneider and loved it but I missed not being home with the kids much as they kept us out 3 weeks. So after year and a half I left but kept my CDL. I went to school to be an auto technician and did that for 4 years then went onto management etc.. and in 2012 layoffs happened everywhere so I got laid off too. Hard to find work in so cal so I tried and got back into trucking. Have been here since minus a year off during covid.
Once you get a year or two experience then you have more options for hometime or local work etc.. but most people in fact 90% of drivers will quit trucking before the year is over. Be patient and enjoy the adventure. You’re young if it doesn’t work out you have many options for careers still ahead of you but if you love the alone time and the adventure then trucking has a world in itself. From local to tankers to flatbed to owner op flatbeds etc..James j Thanks this. -
The training is very well organized. The only real downside of training is they put you into groups of 4 or 5,and couple of groups had friction between the guys while securing .some guys want to point and direct even if they aren't qualified.but any job always has those.cant fault the program for thatKnight_Rider, Lonesome, FullMetalJacket and 1 other person Thank this.

Not sure that 55 is young but I appreciate the thought.always had physical jobs so am in decent working man shape.FullMetalJacket, Knight_Rider, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this.

No worries man I misread someone else’s comment saying they were in their 20’s and thought was yours. Well if it makes you feel better there was a 61 year old woman at COTC and she actually passed all the physical and tarping and only reason she left is because she said her arthritis started acting up.Lonesome Thanks this.

So regarding this I have a question. What about the physical agility test? Someone said they hook you up to heart monitors and take your blood pressure and this and that before letting you attempt them is that all true? What would you say is the hardest part of the physical test?
