My advice to Ultratowel is to also consider the equipment you will be assigned to.
I wouldn't consider driving for any carrier that doesn't have apu's on the truck. I have a complete kitchen in my truck. My lifestyle on the road is very comfortable, for me.
If you wish to do OTR, and run, you will be spending most of your time inside the truck.
You do what fits for you, I'm just throwing my opinion out here.
FINALLY DECIDED

How many miles do you grab weekly on average?
-
I’m considering CFI but I don’t know about their trucks if they have all those hookups already.
-
My "average" is around 2,800 miles per week. You have to consider that when I go home, my miles will be bad that week. While I'm at home, that's zero miles, then the week I come out is usually bad.
Think of it like a NASCAR race...as long as you are on the truck, you are doing good. But, head into pit row and your miles will drop.patsy Thanks this. -
I don't remember seeing anything special about CFI trucks.
Also realize that if you idle during your 10 hour break, that will affect your mpg.
Good mpg =$$$
Last month my bonus check was $359.00.patsy Thanks this. -
I don't think I fully answered your question about MY miles. Home time puts me around 1,800 miles for that. I've also had a lot of 3,000+ mile weeks. I usually get one 4,000ish mile week while I'm out. I stay out a long time because its easier to get steady miles that way. A very huge factor in miles is your hours of service. Operations will see what kind of available hours you have, and that can/will determine what your next load is.

You are going to need to look into tanker work then, it's definitely no touch, HOWEVER... you need details with them things. You will be trained and learn.
You seem set on no touch. I cannot gaurantee no touch in any of the other kinds of trucking with one exception that is McKesson who use third party contractors to run their high value loads. Usually teams because they overnight everywhere and unload quickly, reload and back to origin shipment point. You cannot stop while loaded with this outfit because there are 5000 bosses so to speak who are interested in making sure that load of Narcotics and medicines go through safely. SHipping is drop and hook. You probably will never go inside the warehouses as they are themselves secured areas.
So it's tanker land for you in your preference for no touch. You will deal with that trailer in many ways, hose, unloading, hatches, valves etc etc etc. But its way better than moving 48000 pounds in boxes many off the floor onto small wood onto the dock. -
I'm about to take the leap and go to truck driving school as well. Sounds the exam prep helped a lot. I am signing with Swift and know they give you a regional route during training.

What do they charge for their School?
And how long is it?
