Good for you! Best of luck and many safe miles to you.
-
Thanks. You too.

Will you have to go out with a mentor?
-
Yes. I am not sure how long yet. Have been told 50 to 100 hours but have also been told 240 hours. I am supposed to meet my trainer on Monday.
-
I had to do 240 since I had been out for a while but it went by quickly. Just over 3 and a half weeks. Going out with a flatbed mentor is definitely a help (I had a van mentor) as the securement class is pretty much a joke when it comes to hands on training.
-
I am not sure which I will have. I was originally told I would have a van mentor for 120 hours and then 120 with a flatbed mentor. Whichever I have I will do the best I can. I am not even sure when I will have the first part of securement training. I think they give it on Thursday and Friday and I am reporting on Monday. Doesn't matter though. I will do it whenever they want. Really just looking forward to starting the training.

Phase I is completely unimportant in the grand scheme of things. It is simply sitting in class for two days and talking about the loads Swift hauls. Then you will be given a safety vest, hard hat, and safety glasses...oh, and steel toe shoes if you have none ($75 deducted from your check I think). Mike does a final tie down (phase II) in Greer, Perry runs the Gary class, and I am not sure who is in Phoenix. You can do it at any of these terminals. Even this class will not really teach you anything. You will go over the different loads and then have to show that you can secure a coil, loaded suicide I think. I did phase I in Greer and II in Gary, IN. Both Mike and Perry are knowledgeable and darn decent guys to deal with.
