The ones with schools make alot of money off their school and don't pay the newly graduated drivers squat. The others I have no clue how they survive. It's gotta get expensive doing a big orientation class every week and maintaining a big recruiting department plus advertising etc.

Rezin very old dead threads tonight I see.

The ones with schools get grants/tax breaks for every student they train for the workforce. Then they charge the students ontop of that lol

I really knew that. Just thinking out loud, but not thinking too deeply. The rich always want to flood the market to keep the prices down.machinegunner_240 Thanks this.

Stevens Transport gets money from the Texas workforce commission for every student they bring in and they still charge students $5,600. The money they get from TWC is your little weekly allowance while your with the trainer.

There is no driver shortage. The only ones claiming there is, is the industry, big companies so as to keep recruiting NEW drivers to keep the pay low. What there IS, is a massively HIGH turnover rate and a plethora of trucking jobs no one wants because of crappy pay and working conditions but by the numbers there are plenty of drivers to fill the jobs. Companies will take one position and say they need three drivers. The trend and future is short tag teaming, line haul dropping. One driver takes it from the port in Baltimore for example, takes it as far west as his hours will allow, drops to another driver and heads home. The other driver heads west and does the same thing, short hauling with a bunch of drivers where each driver can just about make it home each night and the trailer and freight finally end up at its destination on the west coast. All about cash. Cheaper pay this way.Last edited: Aug 25, 2015

That was an incredible post. It's not that bad for me ,but you paint a very good picture of what it sounds like for many drivers. I think some companies, shippers, truck stops, etc. are trying harder and some never will as long as drivers put up with it.

I just started in this industry myself but so far I'll say screw fruits and veggies, it's the way of the road!
If you hate the smell of urine put some vapor rub on your lip and some good buddies will give you all the respect you think you aren't getting.
Can't stand refers? Surprising you could hear em over that sad violin soundtracking your life.
I'll joke about that because they're all things easily discovered before you should even consider this career, there are many people before you who have complained about the same things.
The other crap, being away from home, sacrificing your personal time, missing out on family time. It's tough at times but it's also fantastic. My girls on the rag back home and I'm laying back with a book and the steady hum of 500 horse motors all around me. I'm pretty happy with my current situation at the moment. I'm sorry you're losing out on a career you thought you'd love, hopefully the next page in your life is a better match.
I think we all wish you luck, even if we poke some fun.
