Awesome day today. Took out the Frieghtliner with the CAT 10 speed. Did pretty well. Drove for about an 1 1/2hrs mostly through Orlando, Altmonte then back through Orlando back to school. Worked the shift track and touched up on maneuvers. Finally back home
for a well needed three days off!
Monday will be CDL pre-trip then Mid Terms. The Mid Term is basically a non graded" let you know what the final will be like" test. So it will start with 100ft alley front and back. Bumpers have to be within the 18" box front and back, Then a Banana Dock, same rulr applies with the bumpers. There are three docking maneuvers that slightly differ in their set ups and then there is the parallel park. Should be no problem can't wait to see what I get. Once Monday is finished should be a real load off the shoulders because the next week will be a final test then the CDL Maneuvers and road test.
So far the course has lived up to my expectations, Basically if you have the drive and some basic coordination the school will provide you the means and opportunity to become a safe neewbie. -
#### you. I can't wait til I go to school now! You think about which companies your going to try and get on with?

WIndy Hill ,Conway Truckload, JBS,and Swift would be my first picks. I know its going to be tough because I live in Sarasota. Really like Heyl out of Zephyrhills but they say min of 6mos OTR. They also have a local run near me in Bradenton, will just have to see. You will have no problem getting hired out of Jax.

You're doing a fine job with this thread vmaggs. One of my co-students went to Windy Hill and has been on his own for a couple weeks. I'll check-in with him and see how things are going over there, and let you know. Have you checked with Con-way Truckload lately to see if they're hiring from your area?

Yeah i will be calling them within the next week. I've been following your journey, glad to see you got your own ride finally, sorry about your pooch though.

Just spent about an hour on the phone with the "Big Fella". He's running real hard with Windy Hill. He got an older International full automatic. No clutch pedal. Being the bandit that he is, he's fitting in nicely over there. They still run off comic books. 3k+ miles a week has been the norm.

Thats what I like to hear. Donna said they were going back to manuals with the new ProStars and Cascadias but I could handle an auto for a while. If I'm going to be away from the family I have to be running. Doing drops with the plants is no problem for me and I was figuring the extra drop pay would make up for the starting .27cpm neewbie pay. I will still keep all options on the table but thanks for the info. If B,ig Fella has anymore info I'm always interested, Thanks.

What is the allure about running "comic books"? Look, I understand all of us at one time or another have to get creative, but why is this a perk when seeking out potential employment? Have you ever thought about the consequences; god forbid that west bound 4 wheeler being driven by dad blows a tire and crosses the median and slams in to you head on (all the while you're driving on cooked log books). He happens to pass away, although it was not your fault you will still take the hit for vehicular manslaughter because of the fact that if you were running legal then you wouldn't have been there for him to hit. I hate to paint a morbid picture, and again I'm no angel, but I can honestly say that 8 years in to my career I do everything in my power to run legal, and this is with loose leaf logs. Don't try to be a hero out here, opportunities will present themselves in due time, don't take yourself out of the game before the better companies will look at you. You say Heyl wants 6 months experience, go out there and learn and move on to them, but #### it do it safely.
