Tinman...
I am jealous... I think they might be great to work for...
Here's a piece of useless trivia... Did you know that CFI had/has a patent on that red paint that they have on their trucks?

Congrats ScooterDawg ... I am in Cary and looking at CTA as well and will hopefully get started in the next few weeks ... being that you have more posts then I, send me one of those "Private Messages" (email) maybe I can reply and we might be able to get together to share notes and such.
Good luck with schoolScooterDawg Thanks this. -
Be glad to share notes.........
Just sent you a PM with my phone # -
I drove from ATL to Raleigh and back over the last 2 days and man were the trucks out. It seemed like 1/3 of the vehicles on the road (daytime) were big rigs!!
I also noticed that those red CFI trucks looked great .. they must have a wash policy because every one I saw was shining.
Got my Bus ticket today so I will be going to Joplin on Sat .. now I just have to make the cut ..
repeat:
'Don't run over the nuns ..'
'Don't run over the nuns ..'
'Don't run over the nuns ..'
'Don't run over the nuns ..'
hehehe .. for you ScooTear
Tinman!ScooterDawg Thanks this. -
hehehe .. Good on you Bro .. hope it works out. Initially it looked like they were the -only- good company hiring rookies/students, especially one's that allowed dogs ... but there are a number now that I've done more research and talked to more folks. Certainly W/S, Conway, and Magnum (ND) appear to be much better places to start than the 'usual suspects' but if those efforts failed, I'd be driving Werner or FFE/American Eagle, or who knows. Got to start somewhere and I wanna drive

Scooterdawg,
I've read this entire thread and man, you've really got me ready to be a big truck driver. I'm currently in the Air Force, but will be getting out sometime this summer. I will be going to school in a month to get my CDL A. After reading all these posts, it seems like this is the kind of community I want to belong to. I couldn't believe the amount of support you had through all of this. Man, I wish you the best in all your endeavors and I personally want to thank you for all the great information.
Take care brother,

Cumminsdude...what were you trained for in the Force? As an ex-military myself, and an ex trucker nowgettingbackin, I have to suggest that you may be open to much more money in your respective field, and BTW, you have just 10 years to use up your residual benefits. Don't wait like I did because I got into jobs, was making money, and didn't think I needed the free education.
Trucking isn't a vacation, isn't pretty, you DON'T get to have a girl in every state, you will be lied to continually, treated like a beggar, bored to tears for days, scared out of your wits for seconds, and often cheated for your money. And throw away your rights as an American citizen when you climb into a truck. It is NOT your home, NOT your sanctuary, NOT your own.
You gotta want it. And after a couple years, the stars in your eyes will dim as reality sets in and you either settle down to just a job (with a little freedom of sorts) or become bitter and disgusted and hate your life, miss your family and friends.
Just thot I'd give a wakeup call; not trying to talk you out of it.Cumminsdude Thanks this. -
Red Fox, I understand exactly where you are coming from. I'm an AMMO troop. I deal with all the munitions that the Air Force has. With that being said, there's not a whole lot in the civilian sector that do what I do. I have a few friends that have gotten out and are drivers now. I understand it will lose some glits and glammer, but I've wanted to do it all my life and now I have the chance. My wife will retire this summer and she already has a great paying job lined up in San Antonio, Tx. I know that the money is rarely there in trucking but I'm not doing it for money, I'm doing it because I really want to be on the road meeting different people and seeing new stuff. I've been to 18 countries since I've been in military, but I've only seen a handful of states. Hopefully this will be a good job for me, but if it isn't, I will stop and find something else. Thanks for the wake up call because I really do want to hear the good, bad, and ugly from all of you.
Thanks again,
Cumminsdude
