Dog, we once again agree. Con-way is my number 1 choice but LOVE Roehl (rail ). Spoke with a guy that has more degrees including a "doctor" yesterday that went with US Express said he should have gone with Roehl. I have followed your thought process and have researched your each and every thought. Has been a mega help to me my man. I have a spreadsheet listing Companies and all for Charlotte, NC area so I can try to figure all this Cr*p out. Dog, you have done a ton of reaserch as I have also, but much appreciated my man. We are both thinking Con-way. Again, mucho thanks bud
YeAH! No kiddin', No T. Contrast that with the stary-eyed newBee, --- With ThE ONE (probably first and only) Truckin' company showin' interest --- and tellin' us how great that is. And some Dawg comes on here tellin' us that he has at LEAST 18 bones buried out thar? YeS folks! Entering the truckin' industry CAN be done these daze. And it appears that ScooterDawg is showin' y'all the better way to accomplish that. Look SharP! BE SharP. And like I've said, somewhere, before, The Big truck truckin' industry depends on PERFORMANCE. The better y'all perform, with whatEVER y'all got, --- The more y'all will be noticed, ---- And the potential to rise could easily become much better. In the truckin' industry, ..... The squeakin' wheel, more often than not, gets replaced. However, the non-squeakin' wheel, more often than not, --- gets more miles. I recommend, when reading the various threads, that folks also take into consideration, the attitudes of those who are, seemingly, havin' an easier time than others. Pay special attention to attitudes in general, and in particular, if necessary. IMO, Attitudes speak louder than words displayed on a computer screen. Venting and stating facts are two, entirely, different thangs. Pay attention to what the venting is about. If the stories are consistant. Y'all just might wanna go Hmmmmmmmmmm. Then, there are those who clearly, and factually, state the current affairs goin' on in the truckin' industry. Often stated in a matter of factually way. My advice is to pay special attention to them. Many aren't prone to repeating themselves. Listen fast. But if they sense sincerity, they'll repeat it as many times as necessary. We're not here to steer y'all wrong. We're here to assist you. And, IMO, This thread is turnin' into a MusT ReaD. I'm thinkin' that we're fortunate to have a ToP DawG on the job ---- takin' the time ---- makin' the effort ---- To keeps us informed and up-to-date during his daze and nights attending Big truck truckin' school. Personally, I'm takin' notes. And all y'all wannaBees and/or newBees ---- Y'all should be, too. That's my opinion. And y'all are welcomed to it.
Oh-geeZe! Well, ..... I can keep the secret --- If YoU can. You might get a baaadd label if that information got out. And you, my friend, have benefitted from that knowledge provided by him. Did you thank him? HeY! Even I don't go THAT far. Now SEE? Right thar is what'll make a baaadd man -------> mist up ----- just a tad. Some folks like watchin' love-story movies, and get all misted up. Me? I get misted-up readin' and hearin' 'bout success stories. YeS I do. And to credit me? Well, ..... that right thar is triple-chocolate icin' on a quadruple-chocolate cake. Thank YeW for mentioning that, SimpleIn. And I have NO doubt, you WILL. Call it a 6th sense. If you will. For want of a better name. ----- W O O F ? ShuX HowdY! Not ya got be all a-blush, ...... here. MuchO welcomes, mi amigo.
Thanks .. got it going in it's own thread. "Starting Katlaw School" in this forum. I had one of 'those guys' this morning. He was 'bummed' about having to do the pretrips in the cold .. was about 30 this morning. Now they do pretrip for an hour or two .. but put on a jacket and gloves and cowboy up. I mean dry, no wind .. 30 is nothing. Midwest is running double digit below zero lately, or somewhere out there. Wait til he has to put on chains in the snow in the teens .. or colder. The instructor covered all your points about shifting and clutching already .. almost verbatim. I feel great about the school and my prospects. Just can't wait to get driving .. though I will have to wait until 1/26 to start that phase. Carry on Dawg! Smash! (hmmmm ... maybe not a good handle for driving a big truck!) hehehe
You have met what the truckin' industry refers to as a "Whiner". Take notes, but steer clear. Then again, .... he might be thinkin' all he has to do is call Triple AAA. Two words to remember ----- Be Available. Y'all never know when opportunity might arise. Be ready to seize it. Ya reckon?
Yeah, probably want to look at another handle... hehehehehe That's just Bad Kharma...... hey, there ya go...... Bad Kharma! I like it! I'll be over to your thread tomorrow night. Just popped in and getting ready for bed, but looking forward to the read. Talk to you tomorrow buddy! Arf!
Man, it is my pleasure. I am glad to know that all this typing and babbling is helping someone out there! I actually have a spreadsheet on the companies that I am intrigued with and would be more than happy to share with you. I use it as a comparison sheet and you could add your companies in as you went. But it gives a great means to do a comparative analysis. PM me with an email and I'll put it in your pocket! Thanks again for the kind words. It does this heart good! Glad to be of assistance.
Yeah, my Daddy taught me a long time ago to have a GREAT Plan B, a contingency plan, a backup plan, a stop-gap measure, an exit strategy, and then have a redundant plan covering any potential unforeseen surprise. Ok, so 18 may be a little overkill, but you know what, the way I see it, ONE of these will be my future employer (unless you or Aftershock want to buy a truck with me heheheheh) and this will just put me one step closer to "living the dream". After all, if I already have the application in their hands, that's one less thing I am going to have to do to get on the road, right? Let's just hope I get my pick of the litter hehehehehe
Hey Guys - Just got in and it is late...... 10pm here..... Been a long day! Well nothing but good to report. I got to drive today for the first time. What A THRILL! Started out running up and down through an industrial complex, practicing shifting. It actually came a lot easier to me than I had expected. Ike had taught me a mantra.... "I'm...Shift...ing...now". And it worked like a champ! Within a matter of a few minutes, I had it and felt quite comfortable. Then we did some downshifting and that came in pretty easy too. Then, as a pleasant surprise, my instructor put me out on the city streets, then the highway. WAY MORE than I had anticipated for today! Even got to do a pull up at a truckstop to fill the fuel tanks. When they were finally able to PRY ME away fromt he driver's seat, I had a terrible case of separation anxiety! I would probably sound a lot more excited, but I am exhausted! Been a long 15 hours since I got up and I am just now sitting down. Got home and was right back out the door doing other things. Anyway, I'll babble a little more about today and the going's on of tomorrow. Ya'll have a good night and I'll talk to you tomorrow. Arf!
