Here’s what I don’t understand, any discussion of EV’s everyone says they’re stupid and we don’t have the infrastructure. But this comes along and people are all for it, ignoring the fact that we don’t have the infrastructure for when cross border trucking is no longer a thing. This bill is just publicity but if it had a chance of passing what would happen when the border gets closed down? People don’t think about how much stuff actually goes back and forth across the border every day, they just think getting foreigners out of trucks will give them a rate increase. Never mind the day to day stuff that crossed our northern border, but it sure would be difficult to get to Alaska when there isn’t the ferry capacity to support American drivers no longer being able to drive in Canada.

In that case just deport them back to New York. Says a guy from Georgia that can't use voice command on my phone cause it only understands Yankee talk.

I guess this bill was introduced, because the other existing rules are not being enforced, that Mexican and Canadian drivers are not allowed to do intrastate loads.

Right. Shortsighted reaction instead of enforcing current regs. And if somehow this thing passes everyone will be shocked when Canada says they won’t recognize US CDLs.

A lot of Canadian Immigrant company drivers are causing accidents in Michigan. Just heard a bunch of stories with pictures from a Michigan State Police DOT officer. They have been caught with tampons soaked in alcohol shoved in the crack of their #####. Tea made from used tampons, apparently it gets them high, Can’t make this stuff up. It was shocking. The other big problem is our own gravel trains. Safety violations are unbelievable. Brake chambers hanging, brakes not working. Never greased. One Truck was running on a steer rim only. Claimed he had no idea. It was an eye opener of a safety meeting. 1 hr. of entertainment, free donuts, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, $150 cash and a $50 gas card. What a deal. Looking forward to the next one.

I don't know if that will have much impact on US drivers. I live near Detroit and pretty much all the freight between Canada and US is handled by Canadian truckers, because US companies can't compete on price.
The same with Mexicans. Doubt any US drivers regularly go to Mexico to deliver freight

In the NW most of the propane comes down out of Canada and is hauled by US carriers because it doesn’t benefit Canadian carriers to haul 105k gross into the US when they can stay in Canada and gross 140k. A lot of fertilizer comes down out of BC and is hauled by both US and Canadian carriers. At my old flatbed job I was in Calgary or Edmonton a couple times a week. A friend of mine drives for Missoula Bottling and all he does is run Calgary and back because their empty plastic bottles come from Calgary.

Also, it would be a little difficult getting stuff to Alaska without crossing Canada.
