It depends on the region then, over here it's mostly automotive freight.
Yeah, in your area the negative effects of CDL war would be way more dramatic

I'm on the fence about this proposal. However, I am of the opinion that it's not needed IF, the current laws are enforced.
Example, truck gets pulled over for any reason anywhere in the country. Driver cannot converse with the LEO, result, driver arrested and truck impounded. Every time. Another, driver shows up at customer, cannot converse with shipper/ receiver. No load / unload. Law called and driver arrested and truck impounded. Every time. The law is already on the books, it's just not being enforced. We don't need new laws, we just need the ones we already have to be enforced.
As for the CDL, there is such a thing as an international driving licence. Simply require that for cross border drivers. It doesn't have to be that complicated. It just needs to be enforced.

There's plenty of laws already on the books, we do not need anymore laws. Because some politician is trying to justify themselves. Just enforce the ones already on the books.

Companies will throw in your face lately how many applicants they are receiving….But I would like further evaluate those numbers. For every thousand applicants you get, you can throw 950 in the garbage immediately. I know the stats and I know what’s out here because I see it every day.
Per their own standards, probably only about 10% meet their minimum qualifications. For those who meet their minimum qualifications are they drivers that are gonna run anywhere. Any time with a schedule that gets solely implemented by dispatch? Are they going to drive any load assigned to any destination without question or complaint and let the company totally run their lives? Those drivers are a unicorn.

we know statistically that only 2.5 drivers the start CDL school Are still openly Doing OTR work five years later. Those statistics don’t lie. And out of those 2.5 how many are willing to adhere to the criteria that I mentioned above?

Despite the perceived perception that there is a surplus of drivers there is still not, and never will be a surplus of highly qualified, competent drivers, who are also willing to participate in this industry at the discretion of the company they work for. If companies wish to keep drivers like that, they still have to treat them better than most companies would and garner that reputation to attract drivers like that. A stack of applications means nothing, and if you don’t believe me, just go out on the open roads for a while and see who’s driving around you and who’s filling up the truckstop and ask yourself if you own a trucking company would you hire any of these people.

They don’t need experienced Drivers. Don’t want them. It’s been a trend for 40 yrs. I spoke with a Driver yesterday, same as myself, been driving for decades, good safety record, definitely can solve problems on his own. Got fired from his last local job for running a stop sign on private property. Experience is not of any value to a Company anymore. E-Logs, Automatics, Cameras, GPS, just do as you’re told. That’s all they want. The old saying “The dumber the better” has never been more true. I know I’m not the only Driver who for years has looked around and thought “I’m surrounded by Idiots “ Sounds arrogant I know. But the truth is you don’t have to be very smart to drive a Truck. Pretty soon you won’t even need to be able to drive it. Just handle the paperwork and some impersonal communication. It’s just not an Occupation worth getting into anymore.

A brief look around this website says most truckers are idiots-
But then, talk to most people and you’ll see its a representative cross section. Theres people of every age, race, gender, religion/ however you wanna qualify them: and MOST of every one of them is pretty ignorant of most everything unfortunately.

mark twain said “think about how stupid the average person is- and realize that half of them are stupider than that” or words to that effect.

In my not so humble opinion.

Lol. I’m cynical. Try hard not to be. Also guilty of being a typical know it all. Guess I fit right in.

It would not stop everything overnight. You would see less foreign companies as more states go on board. As rates rise, citizens will buy the confiscated equipment. The shortage will be temporary as folks are hungry for a step up and this is still a lower investment business. It would be a curve similar to the last one. There are plenty of cdl holders not currently driving. You will see less feet washing in sinks and clogging up fuel isles. The track suit may go back to the workboot and jeans. White Volvos will be dumped for artificial reefs for fish to be happy around……
