Finances while on the road

    Sure, you can get into trouble with a credit card. You have to have enough self discipline not to charge more than you can pay off at the end of the month. But as long as you do that you won't be paying any interest. And debit cards, even with the MC/visa logos, don't protect you against fraud the same way. I had a charge against my debit card and I got my money back but the bank insisted I file a police report on it. No problem doing that but I had enough to do on a limited homestay without wasting my time on that. A dispute on my American Express involves making one phone call. Thats it.

    I use a debit card or cash. I have a Capitol One credit card and used it a few months ago. It was declined. I called up and had to verify all my info. My limit went from $5,000 to $300. They said I hadn't used it in years but my limit would build up pretty quick if I started using it. I got to thinking. They are penalizing me because their missing out on their cut I guess.
