Second, you only want to work with lenders/leasing folks who will see this and understand your situation. Professionals who lease or do vehicle loans really care more about how long you've been in your job and that you have income/earning potential rather than your credit score, especially if you can explain a one-off thing. One bad incident is easy to explain, especially if you've paid off other car loans and are current on your other accounts.
Also, always negotiate the financing. Look at the rates and say "that's too high, can you do better"? Shop around. Literally go to every dealer you can find and see who will give you the best rate/deal on the thing you want. The worst they can do is say no.
The other thing I'd recommend doing if you care about it is just protesting the negatives on your credit report, or asking the reporting lender what they will take for a "pay to delete". If it is really only one negative on your credit report, especially if it's a divorce case, odds are they'll just purge it anyway.
Odds are also pretty good that the repo won't make it to one of your three credit reports, and odds are if you go to enough lenders you'll hit one that's lazy and pulls the report without the repo on it.
What you really cannot avoid is a *history* of bad credit. Being late on a credit card, being in collections, or just suddenly not paying all your bills will show up on every report. -

This is not really related to this topic but I used to work at a hangar owned partially by a car salesman well known in the area. He had a side business of selling used cars to anybody that could fog a mirror. If you missed one payment he would come get the car.
Well his repo guy came out to the hangar one time to pick up his personal car he had left to bring it back to the dealership and I was talking to him. The guy told me one time, in a 6 month period, he repoed the same car 5 times. The stealership just keeps reselling the car over and over. He makes a fortune and gets to keep the car.Oldironfan and buddyd157 Thank this. -

Just reading his responses "screamed" troll. Makes 85k a year, but can't wait one year to pull himself out of debt and increase his credit score? Great advice everyone gave; to bad the guy works under the bridge.Trucking in Tennessee Thanks this.
