Start with the antenna first, get an older dependable cobra or uniden that has a proper alignment, use that to get the antenna setup right then look around.

I would not get a radio that has been "tuned", they can work just as well right out of the box,

I wouldn't let Walcott inside your radio, there's been members here that have had bad experiences.

Maybe somebody can chime in,and give you a good shop.

I know Rick out at the ta in Gary does good work.

    Would me getting a
    COBRA 29NW w/ a RM Italy KL 503 Amp

The above would only cost 400. With a Firestick or another high base load antenna. This way I don’t have to tune the radio, other than calibration with a external swr meter. As suggested by ridgeline and also I don’t have to have a shady shop mess something up.

I do carry a box sometimes so I would think a predator being a middle base antenna wouldn’t be a good option.

I plan on mounting the antenna on top of the passenger side window.

i only need to get out maybe 7-10 miles on a occasion, and 3-5 miles normally.
