Was always funny to hear the guys bragging about how their Pete was a triple digit rig , and I’d just say; “mine ain’t that fast , but mine does have a shower and a toilet and refrigerator.”
I ran regional southeast stuff mainly , a couple of the places I picked up at regularly , I’d get drivers wanting to take a tour of my rig .
My rig was a green and white Ford LTL 9000 , so it was pretty easy to spot .
Was the only Ford you’d see for days .

Sounds like my first rig , mine was a 300 HP spring ride cabover, had AC but not power steering . And I made a ton of money with it . Load paid the same , and the guys with a brand new 379 and the payment to match made a lot less money than I did.Bean Jr., Another Canadian driver and W923 Thank this. -
When I was company I’d always ask for an older truck, after a while the only thing I really wanted was ac, but I never did OTR, now I’m 33 and run a 1997 every day (well when I feel productive) I’m not dealing with elogs or any of the nanny beeping #### in these new trucks or sitting waiting for a $600 sensor
one of our family friends ordered a couple t880 Tri axle automatics on new way air, not one made it past 50k on original tires or bushings, all automatics do is make it easier for the driver to beat on and air ride hides the abuse, the next batch are back to walking beam but still autosBean Jr., Feedman, Another Canadian driver and 1 other person Thank this. -

Ok I guess I should have put in more details but I still got some good advice
It’s local work. Leave at 5-6a back by 6 p usually more like 4.30.
I am running daycab trucks pulling short dumps and also tandem dump trucks. I also have a lowboy that stays fairly local but I prefer to drive it myself although I used to let my other driver run it to. The trucks are 4 spring and walking beam suspension with either spring or rubber blocks. I am entertaining the idea of getting an air ride tandem for my possible new guy. Most of the other trucks doing the same work are between 1990 and 2010 some older, some newer.
I drive the oldest truck myself. No ac bare bones l9000 dump truck I weigh less than 20k on the scale and have made a ton of money with that truck it’s light spec and high on power but I don’t have any trouble keeping it together( yes I know it’s not going to last as long as a heavy spec truck)
The old driver got 38 percent of the trucks pay after fuel but before any other expenses. That was between 250-500/ day and usually in the upper half of that range but I trusted the man and he treated my trucks well. It also gave him a little skin in the game which I don’t think mattered with him. I am thinking about trying to go hourly going forward and probably pay between 20-35/ hour.Midwest Trucker and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -

I’m convinced ford guys are just ####ed in the head after dealing with listing my uncles LTL9000
put a red dot roof top on it all I’d drive one. Anywhere, I like those things, more so then the brigadier -
