For those of us with less than 10 years/1 million miles behind a class-A wheel -- I'd be curious to learn how you define a "good" driver (besides just a clean safety record)?

Also: what's the diff between a "good" driver -- vs an "ok" driver?

Good drivers are already gainfully employed. And most are happy where they are.

Finding new drivers that are good is almost impossible, according to my boss.

The new ELDT training requirements, while they have their merits, I think is a bit of a hindrance to some.

Good case in point, I have a relative that has an 18 year old kid. They live in a farm, and this kid can maneuver a truck with the best of them. It used to be he could take the written test, the pre trip and the road test on his own using equipment they own and operate. And the cost is minimal.

Now, he has to go through the ELDT training, which takes time and money, to learn what he already knows. All to legally do what he's already doing.

I recently went to get my Hazmat endorsement and had to pay for an ELDT training course. Even with 20+ years of actual experience. Kind of stupid if you ask me but whatever.

Again, I'm not against more training for new drivers by any means. God knows some of these guys need all the help they can get.
But it all should be done through a third party. Not the mega carriers and their insurance companies.

A good driver leaves early because stuff happens and you don’t want to be rushed. A good driver doesn’t tell lies because he’s worried he might get in trouble. A good driver gets plenty of rest and doesn’t spend all night on the phone or watching TV.
Basically a good driver is a mature responsible individual.

an ok driver gets the job done and doesn’t tear stuff up.

I wouldn’t say getting ran over and killed is literally nothing. And well the guy that got killed probably would rather see his kids grow up than have the money. But in the meantime he had a young family that will need to be provided for.

Yes, we do. Making the Canadians liable for all the damages that happen next.

Yeah, really. When these companies stop employing mouth breathers that stay up all night talking to ol’ girl and drive with their foot on the dash. Then deny and tell lies because they are too #### stupid to know that everything that truck does is recorded. He had multiple safety violations and SNI just over looked them all in the pursuit of a dollar. Yeah they deserve to pay through the nose.
