actually it is possible but it takes a lot of effort....i run 8 reefers in my company 7 of them solos and i have 1 team that averages roughly 1.80-2.00/mile....and heres how: the ability of knowing what your booking as a freight and filling it up with LTLs...i hear everybody is ######## that CHR, TQL etc.. pays crap and yes majority is crap loads...but I usually call on light loads find out how many skids so for example i booked a load from TN to OR for $3000 only 6000lbs and it was only 5 skids...then i book 2 other LTL loads one for $1200 another for $1650 both outta Saint Louis are coming back to OR ...my total miles would run 2500 with total backhaul of $5850 ...minus my 8% for doing a good job and leave team owner operators with $5382 on the check.....cha ching

if you can get a steady run hauling product out of mexico (specilized illegal cargo)--then yes it might be able to be done

TWINTURBOTRANS I do it as well with flatbed , dryvan and reefers its called building a load and it generates good $.

But the OP wanted to run 1 truck , 1 trailer and 3 TEAMS of drivers and get $2 / mile off load boards.
