They all ready know the rate. And It isn't really public knowledge. All that is being asked is for brokers to follow the law. Why is that becoming such an issue. You have to follow the law as a driver

Yeah, that’s really how I think. Everyone cuts their own deal in life. There is not a single person out here who has ever been forced to operate close to or at a loss. That is a choice. The example you gave, he made a choice to take the load for $900. It doesn’t matter the broker got $2k because that is a separate transaction that doesn’t involve the trucker at all.

    Snailexpress and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

So all the brokers know all the rates and they don’t compete with each other for large contracts? And please give an example of someone forced to sign a waiver. If they don’t want to sign the waiver then they won’t work with that broker. If they choose to sign a waiver then that is their personal choice. The brokers being investigated in this article did not ask for a waiver to be signed and then didn’t provide paperwork when asked. So yes in this instance they weren’t following the law and are being investigated.

There is a one of the major brokers, that OOIDA mentioned in their petition, that if you don't sign your right to request to see the rate. They won't do business with you. I don't recall who it was. I agree if you sign it you are doing it willingly. But the complaint is that they shouldn't be asking in the first place, to waive your right. The other issue is the government has known for years about shady broker practices, and brokers violating the law But have done nothing about it in the past. All I personally want is them to play by the rules and follow the law. I don't think that is to much to ask

I get what you are saying, and he did. But apparently that was the best he could do, so I would hate to see what other brokers were offering.... Brokers don't have the overhead we do. They are required to have a bond. They make phone calls to get customers. They charge you a percentage to do quick pay if you choose to. The percentage the charge for quick pay usually is at least 4% which is more than you would make at your local bank

So if $900 wasn’t good enough then why did he take it? It takes a lot longer to go broke sitting at your house doing nothing than it will if you’re out on the road running at a loss.

And you have no idea what someone’s overhead is. How much money do you think a broker floats just on the guys taking quick pay while they wait 30-90 days on their money from the shipper?

That you would have to ask him. Your right I don't, I also don't have a problem paying 4% if I need quick pay. We can debate this until we are blue in the face. You have your opinions and I have mine. As I mentioned in the beginning all I want is compliance with the law.

They really need to step in and help owner operators out a little and look out for us. Brokers try and nickel and dime you for everything. I have a friend who started his own company because he couldn't handle how brokers rip off truckers. He only takes 10% off every load and he always confirms appointments.

I agree. Sounds like he is one of the few honest ones.
