Tough times ahead for new recruits unfortunately mate, bet no one at the CDL school spoke of that though, and would of just focused on all the positives I suppose which is understandable from their point of view. The next year or so is looking like a recession will come generally a recession is defined by the economy contracting for a certain period of time to become official it has to continue for at least 2 quarters or about 6 months straight. First you need to determine what you prefer to haul, you've got reefer ( cold and frozen produce plus dry goods) Dry van ( dry goods only) Tanker ( Fuel, Fruit juice, water, and other liquids) Flat top, ( can be any kind of freight, but can also include hauling heavy equipment like Dozers, Loaders, Excavators, lots of chaining, ropes, and tarping to learn how to secure a load) Pneumatic ( generally different kinds of powdery substances, and grain, things like cement, sugar, flour etc. etc) Tippers and bottom dumpers ( Gravel, soil, and grain mostly) So lots of options there which means lots of companies that are available when the economies a booming, when its not, getting a job will be that much harder when your staring off.
