Wow.. I have ran some hard miles since my last posting. I just got home after 40 days out, and I need the rest.
Ive been stuck out on the east coast for the better part of a month, with a lil trip over towards Illinois to snag loads down towards texas, then back up north east. Im telling ya that New York is one of my least fav places to deliver to, can you say 'rude' people.. lol..
Well truck has run awesome, all the lil gremlins have worked out, cruise works 100% perfectly, rides like a dream. Well.. untill they sent me down to Kingsville, TX to a cotton gin way out in BFE farmland. I mean you drive on dirt farm roads way out to the gin n do a drop n hook, and now my air system leaks when hooked to a trailer. nothing major, but does loose pressure a lil.. /shrugs.
I put in for hometime for the 3rd 9 days ago, and just got home on the 10th, so 1 week is kinda what I expected, and was shooting for, so I just upped the date a week and got here when i thought i would.. just an fyi, youll never get home when ya ask, from my experience and talking to others..
Tips on terminals Ive learned.. NEVER t-call unless its absolutly an have to. If yer load doesnt deliver for a few days (new comp. drivers) keep the load, drop the trailer in the yard and go ask for some local work. I did this in ohio and did a few walmart runs, made the planners happy there, and kept my original load. Then a few weeks later I got back to that terminal and walked in and was like, hey got a good load for me bro, they remembered me and I snagged a nice 1100mi run..
Learn your Macro 22, please, as it will help out the newbs(my self included) to prevent svc failures.. yes I got one, as I was never told how to use it properly, and NEVER put running late, as I did, and got nailed when I showed up in Effingham, Il 9mins late.. grrr...
Worst terminal 'ive' been to.. El Paso. Or what I call it.. El NO Paso. I was just stuck there for 45hrs with NO loads going out.. or I should say going west. So I just flat out told them Im jumping on a plane and going home, then ill deal with a truck or being fired once I get back, seriously 5 mins later I had a load going to Van Nuys, Ca. So I snagged it, ran to Phx, AZ. parked the load, and now im home, doesnt deliver till the 13th 23:59. So Ill jump on it later tomorrow night and get it there. Now im sure im not doing things right, as Im reminded a lot from my old dm, but other drivers have showed me the swift way and how to avoid certain situations and they seem to be working. Now im not saying what every swift driver tells you is true, you just have to weed thru the bs and keep a sharp ear open and get to talking to the drivers that arent ########..
All in all things are going well. Once i got moved to a new DM things are a hell of a lot better, and loads seem to be better, too. Im going to get a new phone w/ Sprint so I can have a wifi hotspot where ever I am, as Im not paying for truckstop wifi service or for Verizons wifi.
So if anyone sees me out there, give me a shout, be happy to talk to someone other than the wierdos that seem to gravitate towards me, laughs.. Im in the Colbolt blue KW with the nice company logo plastered all over it.
Be safe out there, and hope you all have a safe winter. !!
