This one is TIGHT..! If I had room to play with, hell no problemo.. ehh no biggie, Im ok with learning new tricks.. My safety class isnt till monday, so a few hours of practice wont hurt much while im waiting..

AZS: ouch, Id love to have been there that day, as I wouldnt have felt so bad when I did mine.. heh..

Whelp off to bed, as 3am will come early. Back to the terminal around 4am and hopefully it wont be too long there, Id like to get back home before the heat index reaches "blistering hot"...

    Be safe,

So after being at the terminal at 4am yesterday, did 3 backs, 2 driver side and one blind, I was passed thru the backing school, simple.. Went in and took a 55 question test, which is NOT a pass fail test. I think it's to see if you know or were taught the basics out with mentor, and they just go over the ones you missed then move on.. lol.. easy..
After this I went to a kiosk and stood there for 33 minutes listening to this horrible narration of safety procedures, took the SIMPLE 9 question test.. Didnt even need to watch video to pass this, trust me its simple.
Afterwards a few of my academy friends started showing up and we all went over and met out temp dm, got the low down on whats expected, yada...
Informed we have a 6-week temp dm, get 6 weeks to learn the workings of accepting loads, ontime scheduling etc.. If you grasp it sooner, your moved over to yer perminate dm.. and you'll be getting another truck. So I asked "You mean we get a truck in training, then after were done with you we go and get assigned another truck?" answer "Yes". So Im gathering the trucks we get first off will be the ones ready to go out of commision, all is good I guess, I mean I wouldnt give a rookie, new driver to company a brand new/newer tractor... right ??

Anyways.. Went and met Debbie over at truck assignment, got the low down on tractors, wait time, and poked my nosey lil head in the window and took a look at the waiting list.. Looked to me as she had 39/40 people on her list.. WOW.. and I was number (yup you guessed it) 39... Knowing I wouldnt even get a truck the first day, I just made sure she knew who I was, made jokes, etc.. Figured if I stuck out in the crowd she's be more inclined to get me in a truck faster :) It sorta worked.. as when I returned in a few hours, I went in all happy, joking around and what not, talked to her a bit, asked my driver code and noticed my name was pushed up the list.. I now reside at number 27, woot. !
Was told they are working today, so Im heading down there and sittingonthe bench for a few hours, just to let her know I want a truck fast. :)

Well after that, and baking in the heat most of the afternoon I wondered over to driver services and got signed up for some class on monday, forget the name of the class, something like driver awareness or something, forget. It's a 2 hour class everyone takes, no big deal, then I guess Ill go back out to the yard and bug Debbie for a few hours and wait for a truck..

Not 100% sure I got released to 'solo' status or not, guess I might be, as they sent me to tractor/truck assignment?? no idea.. /shrug
Whelp I guess Im off to the terminal for a few hours to be seen/heard and make sure they know I want a truck and im serious about getting one sooner than most...or untill the heat gets to me and I need to come home and jump in the pool for a few hours. lol

    Thanks for listening,

    -=Peace

Enjoy that pool bud. I'll be baking in Phoenix at the academy in a week lol. I'll be stressed, hot, sweaty, homesick, and happier than he'll I finally got in!!! Thanks for being cool and hope to see you and kusanagi sometime at the terminal. I want to go flatbed so I don't know if I'll be outta Phoenix or Fontana terminal. Fontana is closer but Phoenix is closest for flatbed. Glad to hear your doing so well.

Im sure youll do well out here in Phx, I even think there is a pool at the hotel they put ya up in, not 100% on that though :/
Just follow the directions the instructors give ya out on the range and study the pre-trip paper verbatum and you should do well, im sure of it..
I'm one of those that believe "If I can do it, anyone can"

I talked to to a guy today and he told me that flatbed is a 3 week wait for a mentor. I also ended up talking to a flatbed driver, which had an ovewhealming ability to talk about flatbed loads, etc.. cool guy all in all.

No change in trucks available today.. Looks like it's going to be a waiting game, kinda sucks, but going to make the most of these days off and get things taken care of here at home. No sence in being angry and pissed, right?

Monday is a whole new day, and since i'll be there in class for a few hours I may as well go back n bug Debbie for a few hours.. Hell I wonder IF I bring her a nice bottle of Scotch n lunch if it'll help.. lol

    Once again.. Till next time..

So you're saying (at present) Swift will allow you to go straight from the academy to flatbeds?

I ask because I start Monday in Phoenix.

Correct you can.. but you will be waiting for a mentor, 3 weeks, maybe less depending on your luck, but the drivers manager told me 3 weeks..

    Right.

A few weeks ago I was told not to accept any loads not going to/through Phoenix, as I was going to be getting a 'new' truck.

I thought, heck, I like my Volvo. It may be getting old (an '07 with 496,000) but it does me fine.

I get to Phoenix after hours, so I go to the truck assignment desk in the morning. I'm told to check back in a couple hours, so I do.
Still no trucks available, check back in a couple hours.
So I do. I'm told that I was next in line, just waiting for another truck to come out of the shop - check back later.

Sigh! I wonder what I will get. I'm thinking an '08 Volvo with 400k or so, since I am only with the company ~6 months.

So I check back, and she looks me up in the computer, gets a funny look on her face for a couple seconds, and hands me the papers and keys to a nice (almost new) 2011 Cascadia.

    Sweet!

Waiting sucks, but sometimes you luck out.
