I am staying at Legacy Suites right now... it is not for the faint of heart, but it is survivable and convenient,,, you will be rooming THREE to a room and the chances to be able to have quiet time in common area are SLIM to NONE... BUT you can always stay in your room and put headsets on and sleep while everyone is wasting their time and study your pre trip when they go to bed and are done with talking loud and smoking.... when you get to Phoenix HUNT DOWN the multiple choice questions and answers for the CDL permit that Jerry gives out... ask your recruiter if he can send you a copy even THEY ARE GUARANTEED TO PASS... pm me if you are coming b4 10/28... i have a copy.
Yes, 1 loan for academy and 1 loan for Hotel. There is a handout detailing the day to day cost of the academy training. It goes something like this (from memory so NOT accurate) Day 1 free, day 2 free, day 3 through day 19 $229/day and so on. So for people who fail straight line backing (day 4) they owe $500. People who fail pre trip (day 9) owe $1900 and so on and so forth. Their paperwork list the per day costs but I can't seem to find mine. Maybe it was a turn in, not sure. TooGroovy might have it since he is currently in the academy.
YOU GOT IT!!! wombat... and I do NOT understand how can people fail the MATERIAL part of the TESTS, right NOW we got a new roommate whom I GAVE the answers to the CDL permit... and told him what "JERRY TOLD ME: IF YOU STUDY THIS FROM NOW UNTIL THE TEST YOU WILL GET A 90 or above..." I passed with a 93... the ones that did not study were sent home... NEW guy is DISCUSSING how taking the test is "HARD" and I am posting about it (which is not that good) so I am going to study my pre trip and stop being so freaking judgemental.... sometimes I get UGLY... sorry... MY POINT IS... there are a limited amount of FAILS before you get sent home and... YOU OWE 4,400 and have NO JOB... 2 straight back ups, 4 pre trips, 4 parallel parkings, and 4 cdl test tries... NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART and the DO GIVE YOU ALL THE tools you need but IT IS UP TO THE STUDENT!
Hey guys a lilttle of subject but I start on the 5th of Nov. Wanted to know how much extra cash for food should I take money is kinda tight just seeing if I should borrow from family don't wanna starve.lol
Thanks for the replies ltwombat and TooGroovy. I am not so worried about failing or freaking out, I am worried about paperwork. I have everything I need, only problem I have been living overseas and have not kept up a driver's licence in the US for a few years. I will get a new, updated DL as soon as I arrive back in the USA. I don't want to feel as if I have everything worked out to get passed my issue, pay money, show up for class and then find out I am still sent home but now out of pocket for tuition. The "free" first days of class should solve my worries. Thanks again!
It all depends on how much you need to eat. You'll need $35 for DMV permit without endorsements. If you add endorsements add $10 for each one. Walmart is about a 2 mile walk for groceries. I took a large jar of peanut butter, jelly and some lunch meat and alternated between the two for lunch everyday and ate at Costco every night ($1.50 polish dog & soda) but I had my car with me. Costco is on the corner of McDowell and 99th, the hotel is on the corner of McDowell and 83rd so that's how far the walk is.
If you recruiter is worth their salt all your ducks will be in a row before you arrive. My recruiter, Sonya Pantoja, had me fax all my paperwork to her so she could review it first then gave me the green light to start. She even called the Friday before I left to make double sure i was ready. In my opinion she earned her commission with me. I have no clue what they will want regarding the DL. I had some unemployment periods and all I had to do was get a notarized letter signed by my wife and daughter stating that I was unemployed from this date to that date. Maybe it'll be the same thing with the DL. Chances are you're not the first person with this issue so they will know how to handle it. Good luck. Oh BTW, back in 1983 when I was in the Navy we were dispatched to Camiguin Island to fix the steam generator. Pretty small atol but peace full and the diving was fantastic. There were war clouds gathering on Mindanao between the Muslims and the Christians. Did they ever settle that or are they still killing each other?
^ Yeah, I am also prior service (US Army) and I like to have everything squared away. I worry due to reading online that per-hire letters and recruiter approval does not always mean a lot. Glad it worked out for you, I will just keep working my stuff until it is a right as it can be. If for some reason I get rejected last minute, I have a back-up plan to take my training at a community college. I like Camiguin Island. I wish I could have seen it back so many years ago like you. Most of the Philippines is still mostly still backward with a lot of government corruption. Camiguin is nice as the local government does seem to be pretty efficient. The money they collect does actually seem to benefit the people with good roadways, schools, etc. I will be relaxing in the natural hot springs, up on the semi-active volcano in the center of the island later tonight. Good timing in your question about the problems with the The Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Filipino government officials and Muslim rebel leaders signed a landmark peace deal Monday aimed at ending the long-running insurgency in the troubled south. It is being reported in the international press and it seems to be a real peace deal this time. Time will tell. Next problem is the Chinese, they claim all of the small islands (along with all of the gas, oil and fishing rights) in the South China Sea. One island is only 90 miles west of Manila but yet the Chinese say it belongs to them. Pushing the Filipinos around, warships and all. Filipinos are looking for their Uncle Sam to give them some protection. Serious talk of reopening Subic Bay Navel Base again for the US Navy again.
