Fire!

Probably the reefer started the fire and then traveled up the pigtails.

 

If? Battery cables? 30 amp fuse in a 5 amp fuse slot? Alternator bearings shot? Battery shorted?

The one guy said the flames started shooting up from the hood area. Though inverter fires are common it would of most likely burnt the cab area first. They happen when someone doesn't protect the hole in the floor penetration properly.

Drivers with no TV or laptop.

i caught mine in time , but i bought one those 12 volt coffee pots time i got back too the truck from the shower the whole cab was filled up with smoke , it burnt the end right off the socket, it was a wake up call and a close call ,never again will i buy any that 12 volt junk from bar jan

Absolutely, and if NASA had just followed procedure and not allowed the contractors to convince them that jury-rigged o rings would work most of the time in ideal conditions, the space shuttle Challenger would have been retired last year right?

Anything done correctly is going to operate at least within a safe threshold. However, how many fly-by-night "cb shops" that operate out of a van, or drivers that have lots of money to spend on somebody's 2nd hand amped radio but no knowledge of electricity, conduction, grounding, or insulation are going to properly wire and install a radio? How many have I seen with exposed fraying wire dangling from under the cab attached to corroded terminals with nothing more than a quick wrap or tuck through the cable loop? How many custom antenna mounts have I seen on the back of cabs with the antenna cable swinging in the breeze, also chafed and frayed at various points? How many drivers, I wonder, actually take the time to use an ohmmeter and SWR meter to check their wiring and/or cable along its route to make sure that excessive resistance is not leading to overheating?

 

I was at the Petro in Atlanta last year, went to sleep and thought I heard yelling and sirens but they didn't sound real close. Got up in the morning, drove around to leave and there was a Stevens burned to the ground.......

 

All comes back to doing things correctly.

 

No big loss if it were a Stevens. They make all the "Big" money and no one knows who owns the truck. I love the speculation on here, why not just call the fire dept where the truck was when it burned and ask.
