I've had 3 trucks that burnt to the ground.Unfortunately I was caught on the 4th one fanning the flames..If they give me a crappy truck, I have a foolproof [ almost ] way to get another truck.

In my first three months as a rookie driver, I had a trailer fire. It shut down the Western KY Parkway (Wendell Ford Hwy). A bearing froze up on my trailer, and the driver who contacted me on the CB to tell me about the tire fire that was about to start pulled over to help me. I was totally untrained and unprepared to deal with this, so I took his suggestion and grabbed the fire extinguisher- and when we hit that tire with the extinguisher, it BLEW UP IN OUR FACES. I had a bad concussion and bruised the stapeus muscles in my ears, but I was lucky that was all I got and that I am still on this side of the dirt. I was running with a team partner, who had the presence of mind to unhook the tractor and drive it to safety. Road Train Member is absolutely right. I am lucky to be alive, because the officer who showed up on the scene told me that another officer he had worked with had been killed by an exploding trailer tire. I watched the trailer burn down and catch a hillside on fire. I was not cited for this because the police said it was unpreventable, but I don't want anyone to get hurt out there dealing with a trailer fire. I still get teased about it by my former team partner (who means it as good natured fun), who still likes to say to me, "If the trailer is on fire, what is the first thing you do?" I tell him, "Unhook from the trailer and pull the tractor to safety- and hope the trailer contains a load of popcorn."

This past Wednesday, I was going south on the westside of the 285 loop around Atlanta,Ga. A fire truck comes rolling by. There are 3 trucks parked on the right shoulder. The one in back has a trailer fire. The drivers are all out there with their fire extinguishers. The fire truck pulls up and the firemen are jumping out as I go by. The guy didnt drop the trailer. Fortunately, the fire dept got there before the whole truck was lost, but why was the tractor still attached? I know alot of people think, "hey, it's not my truck and I am not going to risk my life trying to drop the trailer. But that's YOUR gear in that truck. If your truck burns up with your gear in it, you are SOL.
It takes no time at all to drop a trailer.
