there is no federal law prohibiting guns in cmv. on the contrary , there are a couple laws from the atf that protect gun owners while traveling . one is the fopa law (firearm owners protection act.. and the other is the statuet 926a...

There is no state you can't travel THROUGH with a firearm. If you are going to stop, it's a different story. Handgunlaw.us will tell you what you need to do to travel in any state.

NO, it is NOT.
Please STOP posting outright wrong information to the forum. -
I live about 12 miles from that TS.
There is NO reports whatsoever of ANY drivers being robbed there.
(NCIC and SO reprts NON_EXISTENT)
Also,
I-20/59 and US 80 do NOT intersect in AL.
11/80 crosses I-20/59 in Kewanee MS
I do know of PLENTY of problems in the TS's areound that ****hole called Shreveport though. -
and i agree, stop posting incorrect information. for those of you who continue to think it is illegal to carry a legally owned weapon in a big truck (save for company policy) show me the law in the FMCSR book. you will not find it there as there is no law.
i am one of the very fortunate drivers out there. my small local company that i drive for said carry away, and that is from the owner. he has been out here driving and he knows the inherent dangers OTR.
i have a tennessee handgun permit that is honored in 36 states last time i checked and yes i have it with me each and every mile i am in the truck.
before i found out we could carry, i was stopped in missouri for speeding. i handed the officer my permit with my CDL and said i was unarmed and he waved me off and said he wasnt worried about that.
i have spent the night in many places that would scare most others, but i sleep well knowing that first off, i run my seatbelts through my door handles (volvo) and lock them. if anything were to happen, the doors can not be opened unless someone is in the truck with me, and if that were to happen, they would be S.O.L. anyway as i sleep with it on the night stand.
i pray to god i never have to use it for self defense, but if i have to, i will. my life is worth far more than some crackhead looking for a quick buck for his or her next hit.
as a gun owner, you are responsible for knowing the laws in each state. dont get caught with a weapon in Illinois, DC, Wisconsin, NYC, Jersey or California. those places are off limits to guns for everyone but the criminals. i am lucky that i do not have to go to any of those places for very long. obey the law, dont do anything to get stopped and then you wont have to worry about anything. -
I am heading out to cdl school soon. I am from Manhattan and worked in the Bronx a few years back delivering seafood. I had to collect cash from stores in areas that were so bad you had to be buzzed in like a diamond shop. There were a few occaisions when I wish I had a weapon, but pepper spray would have been fine if someone had tried something, except maybe someone on pcp...lol. The only guns I will be carrying with be my arms, and if anyone tried to get in my truck while I am in there will get the action end of my louisville slugger!

While it has been established through lack of prohibitory laws that guns are ok per each states law, be careful about other items, especially you blade collectors.
I was on my way to pick up my usual friday load just before the holiday weekend of the 4th when my truck broke down. Through a bizzare chain of events this led to me being booked for CCW and my first ever trip to the pokey.
Upon stopping for the 3rd time in about 5 miles for my coolant sensor buggin out and shutting down engine (when the tank was full), I aquired a state trooper "rendering assistance". He called a truck, let me go with warnings on a few truck and log violations, but thought I was hauling drugs because I DH 600mi a week from denver to sioux city to restart my weekly route, after having been in texas (because that dallas border is a smugglers haven!).
Having nothing to hide, and having declared the 2 handguns i had in plain view per nebraska law, I signed a consent form and he went to work. 2 hours later, trooper returned my handguns to the truck, confiscated 3 of my knives(1 switchblade, 2 with handguards-which I'm sure I could find for sale if I walked into a couple stores in omaha), and took me in to booking at 5pm on friday before a holiday... I managed to get cut loose by 8pm on personal recognisance, was scared I was gonna be there till Tues afternoon. I think I"ll get it dismissed, but 2 weeks later county attourney still has no paperwork, and thus no ability to discuss the case.
This was primarily the case of a young trooper getting gung ho and thinking he was gonna make a career winning drug bust in what I'm told was the first few months on the job. I'd never had any problem with LEO previous to this other than the occasional snide comment from the other end of the spectrum, the decrepit guy finishing his pension out in the scalehouse. But this does happen, and I'm out work for court appearances and 3x towing for 2 trucks being kept onsite during search.
I've only been carrying the last few months, since i got a reg route that keeps me to about 5 states that will honor my permit once i get it(assuming i still can after this mess) KS,NE and CO open carry (with some municipal restrictions), texas can conceal in vehicle without a permit, lock in safe in OK and IA.Last edited: Jul 14, 2011
