Certainly self preservation plays in to trading paint. But..can't be bullied, or crashed to avoid say probably 99.5% of accidents. Head on ones like in the dash cam video are not all that common. I always try to avoid a accident, and all the hassel. One just has to pick their poison. Like said, dash cam is a must.

    Absolutely-

I'll be patiently waiting for the " Screw the unions " Guys to reply with answers on how to help the OP with better alternatives.

My experience with unions means he would have never lost the job to begin with. After all, he would have gotten it back within the hour and management knows this. They simply don't want to do the extra paperwork.

If you really liked that job, give it a full year then contact your boss again to see if they'll give you a second chance. I did that after being terminated for dropping a loaded tanker on its nose
Because other than that snaffu I was a good driver they hired me back. Good luck to you.

It's fine to say "hold your lane" on a message board, but when your in the situation with a semi coming head on at you, reflexes and survival instinct take over and you get the f out of the way so you can live. I don't blame the OP one bit. This is a situation where one of those event recording cameras would have probably saved your job.

@ OP Find another job. That accident won't hinder your opportunities as long as your license is clean. There are better companies that wouldn't fire you because you chose to damage a plastic hood instead of run head first into an incoming semi.

actually, a bar of soap...you get to beat him down, and get him clean at the same time.....you "kill" two birds with that deal.

Ive been in head on situations or even offset head on pending with other semis either them in my lane or me in theirs from sleeping.

Trust me, you are going to want away from that situation if you value your life. Times get to be awful short. 4 seconds or so. Don't waste time thinking. Just do. It will be all over one way or the other.

There was no impending head on. She clearly says that she was checking her mirrors and saw another truck about to side swipe her. That truck was passing her in the same direction of travel.

That's going to be a make em hit you situation.
