A few weeks ago they were enforcing the idle laws at the TA in Columbia, NJ. I was parked in the back and a “hazmat response team” from the local sheriffs department (with 4 people in the truck) pulled up next to me and started taking pictures in between my truck and trailer. Naturally I was curious, and a bit peeved so I asked if I could help him with something. The guy said he was taking pictures of the idling truck next to me. When He pulled out and parked in front of the truck, I did my neighborly duty and went and knocked on the guys door and informed him of what was going on. I figured he was going to get woken up soon anyway, might as well be by me! As soon as he shut his truck off the sheriff drove away. Ironically less then 100’ away there were FIVE FULL gallon jugs of piss, I guess that’s not the Type of hazmat they were looking for that night.
Best sleep I ever had was at a rest stop into upper peninsula ... No other vehicles, no lights and not a sound all night.
Interesting that they showed up on private property, and also interesting that they showed in a hazmat truck. I had seen someone in a local sheriff truck roaming around the Pilot in Milford CT last winter, but it was 15 degrees out and they didn't seem to be bothering everyone (who were ALL running their engines), so I don't know what they were on about. It would definitely be a refreshing change if they started caring about the bio-bombs though! Absolutely disgusting how some drivers treat the yards, and how badly they stink after a rainstorm.
The law is the same on private or public property. I love driving a truck, yet hate having to associate with most truck drivers.
I had 7months at the time and live in Arizona. I ended up getting a job with pride transport who has apus
