Was driving 65 mph on the interstate truck in front of me slammed on their brakes and I was using adaptive cruise control so it slammed on the truck brakes and the load shifted and damaged the side of the trailer.Gearjammin' Penguin, uncleal13 and Bud A. Thank this.

That is your problem. If the cms is tracking ANYTHING, cruise control should be off. Don't give it a chance to freak out.
Minimum safe following distance is 7 seconds. Most cms/adaptive cruise holds a 4 seconds gap. They are designed to give a driver an extra second to respond. They are not designed to maintain a driver's safe following distance. I teach my guys that if they have traffic within 14 seconds, cruise should be off and they should be running the fuel pedal.Albertaflatbed, lual, Michelle33 and 4 others Thank this. -
