An Arizona DOT officer once told me that Swift loses 1.6 tractors a day to accidents. But they save money by turning their trucks down to 62 mph. As my momma used to say, they are penny wise and pound foolish.

1.6 accidents a day for 16,200 units? That's actually not bad...

My previous post was from the Family Medical Leave Act. If he did get approval, then they have no choice but reinstate his job or face a large fine and lawsuit.

But I have a feeling he didn't CYA as he stated and if his reasoning was within guidelines? You can't just take a mini vacation anytime you want. Also you don't get charged with abandonment when you turn equipment in to the terminal. You better get that off your record or nobody will hire you.

One would assume if he turned it into the terminal, he went in and talked with his DM before he left.

But then again it could be like that couple on here a 2 or 3 of years ago complaining that CRE put an abandonment on thier DAC when they truned it into a "terminal" ... turned out they just left it in a drop yard.

Are you sure we're covered by the Family Med Leave Act ??

I know what it is, but didn't think it covered drivers......

There most be more to that story. Yes there is a lot of turnover at swift but if you do your job and proof your self they don't terminate you. I took 4 weeks off and I had my job when I went back. My dm word to me were take care of family and let me know when you are ready so I can get you a truck.

I don't believe he was employed long enough to qualify for FMLA.

there's always more to a story like this unfortunately. "look what the bad man did to me, everyone be afraid of the bad man". I see this all the time where I work and I just laugh now. As for the mileage money......FREE WILL! No one twisted their arm, including mine, to sign the contract that obligates you to low wages for a year. Get thru it and move on!

USA just lost a class action in CA regarding a host of pay/benefits infractions. Seems to me these larger companies have that all figured out and are good at the process. Either way, bottom line is, driver becomes disenchanted for whatever reason, usually when they become aware they are taking it in the rump, gets upset and walks. Thinking yet will just leave they contract and their obligations behind. The big companies say..........SURPRISE!!!

Good luck untangling the web, the Swift spider might just suck you dry, and not in the way we enjoy it

I worked for Swift for exactly one year. June 1990-June 1991. I do not know if they have changed or not in that time, but they are the worst trucking company I have ever worked for.
