I have been driving for 5 months now and I recently got terminated from Swift a couple days ago for not immediately reporting an accident but instead I reported the damage 3 hours later. Basically I finished being unloaded at a Ralph’s distribution and these docks are so tight that you would have to ask the trucker next to you to unhook his truck from his trailer to even get out. So I ask the guy next to me if he can unhook, but for some reason I guess he was lazy or thought I had enough room to maneuver to pull out so he tried spotting me. Me being stupid I blindly followed his directions and I ended up scraping the corner of my front bumper on the brick wall. Other truckers saw this and backed me up started yelling at the guy to unhook his trailer because it’s obvious I can’t make it. After I reported this incident a few hours later I was originally suppose to get a coaching on close quarters, but instead a day later I get a call from my driver leader that I have been terminated and to clean out my truck. I have applied to almost ever mega carriers even Werner or Western Express won’t hire me due to termination regarding safety. Is there anything I can do or are there any trucking companies that will overlook my termination? I love trucking and driving on the open road, but I absolutely screwed myself over.
Fired from Swift No one will hire me

I know I'll get bashed for this, but you shouldn't have reported it. It's just scratched paint. Easy to cover up with some blue enamel paint, either spray can or small paint brush.
Keep that photo though to show a potential employer if asked to explain the safety violation.justcarhaulin, Kolorado, CatesCube and 20 others Thank this. -

Well that really sucks.
With 5 months experience and a accident , your gonna be in a tight corner for hiring .
I would assume that u learned a few things about all this . ( get out and look , spotter's are not perfect , self reporting minor damage will destroy a new driver , etc etc)
I assume your in debt for school and that doesn't help .
The mega guys are like that . That is why no one likes them .
Depending where you live , marital status , and such , you might try hwy construction ( water tank or bottom dump or dump truck ) or sysco or a delivery type job ( food , soda pop , water , bakery etc etc. ) or a temp out fit ( pro drivers ) .
BUT - they will see what Swift wrote about the incident and such , so write a rebuttal for the incident to DAC, keep all your evidence ( pic's and accident info sent to swifty ) . Your gonna have to explain yourself a thousand times , especially now.
So 1- don't give up trying , think out of box.
2- keep the license.
3- do not go 1099 ( indepentant contractor ).
Good luckTX2Day, Bud A. and Zeldaofeden Thank this. -
