This post has been hit many times, because its an impossible cut. The dock is made for box vans. Now I just drive over a sidewalk since I caught flak from a dispatcher (That has no CDL) got crappy about it. They replaced it with one that is window high. 20180705_110503.jpg

Several years before I retired I was dispatched to pick up a load up near Henderson NC. I got there about 10PM and when told of my door assignment knew it was a "this dog won't hunt". I was driving a MACK tractor that handled more like an Abrams tank. No way I was going to get in that door and I asked for one a bit further away. The guy in the fork lift started laughing at me. I think he stopped laughing as I pulled out and parked out on a side street to wait on what my company wanted me to do. Turns out that shipment was a hot load and had TO GO NOW. The guy said well drop your trailer and I will put it in the door. I said no. By this time i was peeved off anyway. about 30 minutes later the big boss came walking out and wanted to know what the problem was. I told him, and about that time my company sent me a QC message telling me that customer was late with their bills anyway. I read the message actually showed the man the message right off my QC. He whistled and said that had to be a mistake. I went on in and loaded. However i got in the door I wanted and that idiot forklift driver disappeared. I still contend as a driver don't allow yourself to be forced to do anything that will damage your truck or anything around it. Once the damage is done everybody will blame you.

    When you apply... own it.
Tell them you are obviously new, and that thankfully these two incidents were minor, and that you learned a valuable lesson in how to slow down and pay much more attention.

    AND MEAN IT.
lapse in attention = F ups

Yeah we've all been there done that what you will find is the typical rookie 4 wheeler mistake we're used to not looking back when we drive a car so when we get into a truck towing a 53' trailer old habits sometimes still kick in you'll learn very quickly that it always pays to look back when turning into a private road that has a narrow entrance give yourself lots of room to swing into the drive way also when turning left/right at an intersection very important to make as wide a turn as possible while turning keep a look out for how your back wheels are tracking you don't want to take out a set of lights or a pedestrian. Mistakes are part of success this is how we learn and move on to become more experienced drivers.

I’ve gotten fired once in my trucking career for 2 incidents in one month. Fender bender in the yard and a near miss accident which was my fault. I got fired on a Friday, got a call from a new job on Monday, hired by Weds. Just told my new employer up front what happened. I had a clean MVR though. Which helps big time.

DAC is only for crappy OTR jobs. Honestly high paying jobs don’t look at the dac. I don’t think any LTL companies pay attention to it. All they care about is your MVR and background checks. They want to insure you and make sure your not a criminal. Now if your staying OTR I don’t know who uses dac besides Megas but almost all local and regional local type jobs don’t care. I’m sure most Small OTR outfits probably don’t look at the dac and they probably pay better then the big ones.

I swear if I don't get this post made i'm going to explode. First as I have said before I wish the admins here would add the words hireright and DAC to the censored list. I get so tired of seeing post after post made mostly WRONG about hireright/DAC this in turn does not prepare a driver for Realville when there are problems. Hireright is a large company providing hiring solutions to THOUSANDS of company's across the country. I know of a meat processing company that uses their services. Now on to the DAC comments made in here. There is this federal agency in the US that regulates Trucking. I think most of you have heard of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) this agency issues things called regulations to the industry. One of these regulations is part 391. This regulation has specific tasks that MUST be completed for EVERY CDL holder in a company's employ. One such regulation requires what is called a drivers qualification file. When a carrier goes through a FMCSA compliance audit a sample of these files are checked. Another regulation REQUIRES a carrier to do an investigation of a driver. Now keep these FACTS in mind when I now describe what DAC really is. Hireright provides a report that is already formatted to comply with part 391 to a company. Said company is free to do all this manually if they desire. ALL DAC reports are formatted in such a way that ALL the required part 391 information is on the first page. DAC will then provide a history report. Said report will list the company worked for, the dates worked, reason for separation and rehire status.

I also got some sad news for some of you about "hireright/DAC" they are NOT the only company providing these reports.

Now is hireright/DAC right all the time? Not no but hell no they are not. In fact RIGHT NOW I am involved with a young driver that just got his CDL and DAC has a ton of information on him. Only problem is this guy is 22 years old and DAC has a long list of jobs. Got to get this fixed. Working on it. DAC is not some bugger bear. all they do is aggregate information to help a carrier stay FMCSA part 391 compliant. Because I refuse to get into a pissing match with anybody over this i will not get drawn into a font war over this. However over the last year or so I have seen post after post made by people making incorrect comments about what company uses DAC .

To @ShadowChick most likely those incidents are listed on DAC, in fact I would just assume they will be. Your reason for leaving will say terminated. If you decide to give it another try just be honest and list the reasons for everything. You should be fine. If you get in a tight come back in here and ask @Chinatown about maybe there is a better 2nd chance company near you.

Well, I didn't build the roads and or make the truck route intersections non truck friendly. Curb the tire or side swipe the car... On a dedicated route, and not much of a choice in Owosso... Town was built for 40 footers. ;-)

Hitting a curb as a trucker is somewhat like cutting a fart. Stop laughing now! Think about it. Everybody has done it and will continue to do it. In fact it can't be helped. Most people try to keep it down.

well i have a day cab, and a 53 footer van, and i have my tandems all the way forward. i stop at 2 places in downtown Boston, 5 nights a week. one is in Chinatown, the other in Southie.

i (at times) MUST climb the traffic island to get to my chinatown stop, especially when there is a pop up construction going on.

at my southie stop, not only do i have to mount a curb, but i MUST ride the sidewalk during construction. any time i MUST do these things, the detail cops are there, and nary a word, of flagging me down..

and i have yet to slice a tire(s) either on the steer, or the trailer.

it comes with the territory, of being careful, rather than careless...

Boston was built for the horse and buggy, long before the 40 foot trailers.
