Actually, there are...half the fun of driving that road is trying to keep the 4-wheelers from trying to pass you as you make your way up a hill loaded, because there's no way to tell if there's someone just over the top of the hill around that blind curve coming the other way...and if the car is out there trying to pass, it'll get real ugly for everyone.

    4-wheelers ain't too bright.:biggrin_25513:

Your 100% right on that. I've had more than my share of off road trucking. I call the interstate trucking "EZ Money". Because it is compared to off road.

    Bulldog:

I should have qualified my comments with some background. I worked at a paper mill for three years watching loggers come and go. Only on exceptional occasions did a truck come in that wasn't all beat up. There were exactly two chip companies whose equipment looked good: Irv Bettendorf and Terrain Tamers. The rest were rolling wrecks. Since most of us judge the capabilities of a group of drivers based on the condition of their equipment (Swifties, anyone?) It would be reasonable to surmise the trucks in question get banged up on a fairly regular basis.

While I personally have not run up and down logging trails with stick wagons, I did do so on a number of occasions with a 3,500-gallon, unbaffled 1976 Kenworth or 1973 Mack water tender. Depending on which one was running at the time. (One of our expert engineers twisted the drive shaft off the Mack at one point.) My comment was not made in disrespect to the drivers, although there was one company that had no trouble hiring a guy I personally knew to have 4 DUIIs, one of which was within the past three months.

The O/P asked a question. I provided the best answer I could with a little humor added in. Perhaps I should have suggested bumping into a tree with a "sitter" living in it.

Dump buckets in chicago, are the worst drivers on earth. When they stop, every freakin tire smokes. Dangerous POS on the road. I ran downtown many years and Try dealing with the Foreigner Cab drivers. They are worse than the dirt, tree, roads, any day. I have enough stories from running Chicago, to write a book. :biggrin_2559:
