Stevens is a training company, that means lots and lots and lots of rules and little room to do things your way. If you have the right attitude going in then you will be OK and get a good start in trucking. Go in with a crap attitude, by that I mean 'super trucker know it all' you will hate it and fail. So, its not a company for a long career, get what you want out of them for the first 12 months and then move on. Oh, one more thing; disclose everything about your driving record and criminal record up front! Unpaid parking ticket from 7 years ago, they will find it. My buddy started in a class of 29, by the 4th day it was at 12, I swear they find stuff about you better than the FBI.

..that's a good idea, get those endoresments as soon as u can & get the tests & background chks out of the way while ur at it.. they are starting to advertise here more for drivers now & most of them want u to have the dbls-triples & HAZMAT endoresments along with 2 yrs of experience.. it's going to make it easier down the line for the ones who do stay in trucking if u get those endoresments out of the way & on ur CDL license early..

Glad you had a good experience. I had a cool trainer too. The only reason I'm not still there is that I had to break the contract due to family problems. A lot of times the problems come to those who are looking for them.

Wow, Dallas is one of the really good locations for frieght of all kinds. I flatbedded for TMC as a rookie and could never get out of Dallas. Chicago to Dallas, Twin cities to Dallas, East coast to Dallas. They wanted me to take 2-3-4 days off at a time off in Dallas. What I am saying is that you have many choices in Dallas, you just do not know about them. I retired for a second time(USArmy
&Qwest Comms
). My kids are grown and have no obligations. Getting back into trucking and will probaly go with Stevens as I can see one of their biggest lots next to a produce wharehouse they co-own from my house(Rio Rico,AZ).
Read these threads , look into smaller local co and goodluck. Or you could call TMC, they take grads and will run you to Dallas. -

Ya I Tried to be honest with Central Refriderated about my record and they shot me down even though my "background" and DAC report come back with nothing on it, I was just trying to be honest and up front, shoulda kept my mouth shut... -
I agree with you. USX found I was not rehireable with some of my old companies. As a result I was asked to leave orientation. So that stuff does happen. Wheres SurferP??? I'd like to hear more about his adventures.

hell, if you had gone to werner, they wouldnt have even checked that until you were on a truck. I dont know if they would have offed you for it or not, but you wouldve been on a truck when it happened if they did!
lol, at the place i work for now, i was driving for days before i even technically worked here. Turns out that corporate wouldnt process me as hired on because i failed my road test because the examiner (just another driver) didnt read the instructions on the form...ROFL.... marked me a 4 on everythnig, which is a fail....he meant to pass me with flying colors... -
Does Stevens pay company drivers on a Comdata card?

To travelinman: what about the alliance lease program did you not like? I am starting with Stevens soon and want to look closely at their lease program, because I want to.set myself.up.for early retirement so I can start my own recording studio as I am also a recording engineer.
