There is nothing wrong with going to a select few of the mega carriers, to get your start in this industry.

Yes, you will get used; but, the smart ones work the system and use them just as much, for their own good. If I was a newbie, wanabie, I would have no qualms about STARTING my driving career at Prime, Swift, Stevens, or Schnieder. Put in your one year, learn their system, and then decide where you want your career to go.

If you can't do a year with one company, you may be a little soft. Just look at our military, some have to give up a year of their life, overseas in a WAR Zone.

You don't think that some of them would be very happy to see and spend time with their spouses and children every 3 or 4 weeks?

I am sure that not every one of them agree with what they are asked to do on a daily basis. But they do it; because, it is the right thing to do and they have the self discipline to suck it up for the good of the unit.

Believe it or not, some of us DO NOT want a local job! Some of us LOVE the OTR LIFESTLYE, Some of us do quite well being gone from home for 3 - 6 weeks at a time. When we do get home for a few days, we are treated like Royalty by our children and like a lone Bull in a field of cows by our wife.

You may notice that I didn't generalize by saying something like ALL drivers, or ALL Newbies, etc. The U.S.A. is a large place. There is still room for all to pursue our dreams. I refuse to accept the one size fits all dogma that many on this Forum spout. I would say to everybody on TTR, read the information on here, process the information, and if you agree with it or not, try to have a healthy debate here; while realizing that we all are not clones.
