I think that Texas is probably one of the better places to look for CDL work.

Regardless of thr type(s) of freight that interest you -- the work should be there.

If you shift low rang gears at 1,000 RPMs you won’t have to worry about matching gears. You can double clutch and it will go into gear even if someone is not good at shifting. This is a trick I was told when learning. You will be shifting gears fast but it will be pretty smooth. The lower the RPMs the less you have match the gears. You don’t need 500 HP to get rolling from traffic light.

Then for high rang you can shift at 1200 and 1600 RPMs. Bring truck up to 1600 RPMs shift gears, and let engine RPMs drop it should go into gear at 1200 RPMs. Then step on throttle and keep pulling the hills

If downshifting let RPMs hit 1200. Shift gears and bring entry to 1600RPMs and it go into gear.

Most truck’s manual transmission have 400 RPMs step between gears. 1200 +400 is 1600 RPMs

If you think shifting gears is fun -- wait 'til you try backing a 53' dry van trailer....:p :D

Bah! Only took me about 120 trailers to become a pro, lol. I was TERRIBLE at school backing. "If you can back a boat trailer you can back a dry van," My Derriere.

If you get bored at a yard check to see if the spotters need any help, you'll become gangsta in no time and shooting firearms sideways like my latest post.

Gosh I remember how happy I was to get my CDL. Then I couldn't find a job for 2 years and spent 2 years as a dispatcher. Go figure.
