The OP doesn't say if there was damage or not.

'Got stopped before going all the way under' doesn't mean no damage and I doubt this thread would even exist if there wasn't damage.

Now the OP doesn't say he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings or only looking 20' to 25' ahead. He just says he wasn't 'paying attention to bridge height'.

Though that should be one of the biggest concerns for any driver I can cut a brand new driver some slack on just not registering that the sign said 12'6" (guessing the height) if he was otherwise aware of traffic, surroundings etc.

Hopefully the OP will give some more info.

If he didn't pay attention to the bridge height could also mean he doesn't pay attention to his surroundings like he should. Some new drivers don't and learn the hard way.Im wondering too if there were any damage which im thinken not.

Ride motorcycle for a day, your whole trip is looking ahead for hazards. Potholes, blind curves, people on their cell phones while driving, loose loads, and animals make you thin ahead on hoe to avoid or react to what might happen. Spent many a mile on a busy two lane roads looking at the ditches ahead as a possible escape route to avoid ahead on from someone trying to pass. Just like driving truck you have to be aware of what is going on around you,it is a job not a road trip. It is easy to get caught up on the sights or looking at super trucker rigs on the other side of the highway and I have been guilty too but I always want to learn from my mistakes.

Hi allis, that's true. Most truckers have motorcycles, because they are familiar with the hazards you speak of from driving a truck. I rode a motorcycle most of my life , until the cell phone came out. It was the 1st time I didn't feel safe on a bike anymore , and quit riding and sold my bike.

Heck, who do you work for? This may not even be an issue to bother the boss about.
It's one of the 1st things you should be aware of when driving a truck.
Or it will be the last thing you will do while driving a truck.
