our new trucks under 100.000 miles are in the shop 3X what our old trucks are.
People expect a truck to run for ever with no expense on repairs.
It's a mechanical device. When do you expect it to break?
First hit as a new O/O.

All I can say is you guys better shop around for parts and stay away from stealerships my e cat water pump 1 1/2 years ago from the local truck supplier was $350 . Local guy took 4 hrs at $75 an hour to put it in. Another friend got a price on a re man air compressor from Pete $900 for an n14 got it localy for $425 put it in himself in 2 1/2 hours in between beers
Less expensive parts are out there of the same quality are out there just gotta look ....you'll go broke at the prices the op paidlosttrucker Thanks this. -
People expect a truck to run for ever with no expense on repairs. Not if they have any common business sense at all they do not believe this.
You budget for repairs from the day you pick up the new truck until the day you get rid of it , 5th year is the most exspensive.

When i was quoted the prices i called around to some buddies, one is a agricultural diesel mechanic , one is a farmer and the other owns a sandblasting and painting business. All of them have many years of experience with trucks, machinery and equipment and all of them were not one bit sceptical on the quoted prices for the parts and labor. In fact the mechanic buddy said it was a bit better than it usually costs. If you take into account that I do not have a shop in which to work, no major tools, nor the time to shop around for parts, wait for shipping if they are not locally available then fit them myself, then you see that the price I am paying isnt as bad as you make out. If industry standard shop and parts rates are going to send me broke then how the hell do so many people maintain a truck or equipment. Why dont you tell me how cheap you could have done it in 2 days, with no tools , in a truckstop parking lot and compare it to what i paid. All you guys with your negative opinions never seem to have much to back up your comments.

Wasn't a negative opinion just some advice.
I personally know what alot of this stuff costs ...just trying to help.
$2,400 for a water pump is insanity .......imo -
You don't have to defend your decision. Nobody was there helping you write the check and it was your money you spent.
All the armchair quarterbacks are having fun with the new guy making gasping sounds after paying that First Big Invoice. You'll pay a few of those and eventually figure out how to pay less of them. Or maybe not.
Sit back and enjoy the punishment!

Wasnt trying to go too hard on you there 112racing but whats a guy to do? If i had the things neccessary to do it cheaper , by all means i would, I just really dont think its as bad as its made out to be. Its no more or less than any other place i could have gone to in my town.

Yeah ,I know LOL. I kinda knew when i started the thread that it would turn out the way it did. I did say i would keep the forum up to date on my experiences, good or bad, as a new O/O. Im not taken any of it personally , if it generates opinions and viewpoints then thats good, I can read the posts and gain what I can from them . If one aspiring O/O reads this thread and decides to wait until he has a bit more money in the bank before jumping in and buying a truck , then its achieved something. If people just want to bash away with what they could've, should've,would've done, then go right ahead. I got thick skin and can handle it. Like was posted earlier, its easy to spend money when its someone elses and its easy to give criticism on things that never affect them financially. When its their truck that breaks down I would like to hear how they went about their repairs and see how they did it different. I am willing to take any opinion posted and get what i can out of it. If i cant get any usefull info out of a post, well thats fine i just move on to the next one.

On the internet you will get loads of advice on how some would have done it or how you should have done it.
I look at it like this , you got it repaired , your back making miles and in turn generating $ so you should be.
1 poster on this thread tells of his mechanical expertise on many posts but now has supposedly gone through $10,000.00 with very little results
