Haha I'll try! Thanks Chompi... Yea not a ba gig at all considering most of them are in their 50 and 60 and as long as I read twice and load/unload once I should be ok

The trick is setting your own routine and sticking to it. It's when things get out of the norm when contaims happen or spills. Just get in the habit of doing everything the same way. Like when you load. You go from smallest to biggest to load and then biggest to smallest to unhook. Scully-vapor-product load product-vapor-scully unhook.

    Alright update time!!

I spent about 1 week in the truck with the biggest laziest ####### you could find. The guy hurt his hand and was on light duty so not the normal trainer. He really didn't help me learn much and just was pretty much there.... Now he has things going on with the company and his personal life soaybe it's not normally who he is... Everyone says he is a hell of a gas hauler but not a trainer. He wanted to go home everyday and when vapor hose hit me in the head he wanted me to say I had a headache to leave early... Which I refused to do...

So be it... After that I was with the normal trainer for 3 days and learned a bunch... A week and a half of trainin and was carded at all 3 racks and they sent me on my own starting on a Saturday! I did 3 loads sat and 2 Sunday which was a 7 hour day.... I'm on my own and loving it!! I have done so good... My boss talked to one of the owners and from my first load instead of the 26% that newbies start with... I was givin 28% from the owner himself because he was told that I was doing great.

It might only be a couple bucks more but this family company has been great and knew about the first guy who was with me and just needed another truck going because they went from 7 guys on the okc yard to 3... I was ok with that but thanks tithe boss throwing in a few good words... My percentage off the bat was higher than I thought!

During my full week of training at 15 bucks an hr I made $770, the second week with 45 hrs of training and 5 loads, in bringing home $806 this week!

Its been good and I'll let ya know how it goes!

    Love local work!

That's sweet man! You really lucked out with that gig! Course it helps you are a go getter and aren't afraid to take the bull by the horns! Obviously the owners of the company see that and is why your pay got bumped up.

Keep it up man! I'm really glad to see you got a gig right off the bat! Drive safe out there and pay close attention to what you are doing when out of the truck. Sometimes in the construction industry and gas industry a lot more can be thrown at you that you need to be aware of in your surroundings. Besides driving, blowing up would be another pretty big obstacle so just be sure to mind the little things.

    Congrats man, keep us posted...

Thanks Chompi! Will do... Yea I check twice and load/unload once just for those reasons and I been asking them for loads after loads and telling them to start me at 3am so I can get aroud waiting behind everyone at the racks and put more in the ground. I'd work way past my 70 if I could ;)

Heck I think they are tired of tellin me there is no more each day cause I can't make money at home!

Well done Js ! Really happy for you that its going good . Sounds like your feeling confident being on your own driving , it really is the best way to learn sometimes. If you got a good bit of basic training and now youre doing your thing you will really enjoy the responsibility.

Congrats on the sweet gig right out of trucking school. Another testimonial to the naysayers who like to point newbies towards OTR for a year. As long as you can pass a background check, have the requisite endorsements and have half a brain and willing to do some legwork like you did, instead of taking worthless prehires, you will be fine.

Stay safe, go slow and double/triple check everything. Trust me after about a year, you wont be talking about wanting to work past your 70..take it from a guy who worked at 2 LTL companies simultaneously.. No fun, now id rather hook, drive, drop hook and go home. Screw the money, its not everything as I've come to realize. life is short and for living. But once again congrats dude.

WHAT? NO MORE LOVING THE DOCK WORK?? HAHA i knew you would change that soon enough lol

@JsTrucking congrats on the gig. I wanted to haul tankers at one point but none would hire me without experience. Keep on posting and giving your experience as I do enjoy reading other kinds of trucking experiences. And yes you will always have those guys on light duty that take so much advantage of the company, we have one dock guy on that and all he does is walk around and sit in the lounge for hours... idk how that is "light duty". As Cenutry said after some time you will just want to et the work done and go home. Ive been working 55+ hours a week and would like to cut that down to about 40 but in this industry you will not get that so its whatever

I work for a big LTL company, although I do enjoy it, Im thinking its time to go as my dads friend is getting me in where he works. So I would be leaving a big carrier for a smaller business only in my area really but its still union, better pay per hour and less hours. Tons of room for advancement as well and plenty of other jobs if I decide to change what I want to do.

Ya, if you do your homework and think outside the box, don't follow the herd, you can land those sweet gigs! I think most newbies just do what their recruiters tell them and is why they all end up driving for the mega-carriers. Most don't know that the recruiters get paid to send you to those carriers so they aren't giving them up any other options.
