Well, tried to get out of trucking by working on a rig here in North Dakota... but I can’t. I miss everything about it. Every time I try to get out I end up getting right back in, so yeah. Hopefully back to flatbedding for an oilfield service company. Talked to their manager today, gotta fill out my paperwork and turn it in.

Lol yeah yeah. I’m still off the big road due to the reason I came off it. Wanted to try something different, got hired on as a roughneck. I’ve enjoyed it, rough, nasty, gritty work. Lost like 20 lbs or so, which is awesome. Pretty good atmosphere if you’re not the easily offended type. The hours aren’t great though, as in not getting enough. So, I did what another poster mentioned and kept my eyes open for a local flatbed gig, possibly leading into oversized and I found one, well tipped off to one. More money, more hours. I miss trucking, so why not take it? Trucking was my first real adult job. As much as it may be love and hate, I can honestly say the good times were better than the bad.

So here we are, getting back into it

I envy your experience. Many flatbed and drive away drivers at my company were either former roughnecks or fracking crew. They have insight about the kind of equipment going on the deck or where the operation is in terms of getting a load ready to put up on my deck or take off my deck than I do.

You will hopefully be dispatched to deliver or pick up loads from the crew you used to work with. You will have an advantage.

A month ago I got a "soft sell" recruitment offer" from a local competitor as I was getting a PM. The owner of a 13 truck fleet had seen me many times at the same rigs.

That owner started out as a roughneck with the authority to sign waybills. He thought there was a lot of money in the trucking side of the equation, bought a truck ten years ago, then started buying more trucks.

Now he owns 13 trucks and has six owner operators leased on with him. He has a BUSINESS.

If you want, YOU can become a BUSINESSMAN.

I won’t say I’ve never thought about the business route, it’s definitely crossed my mind. Especially up here in the oilfield.

Was the “soft sell” any good? Or did you stay where you’re at?

I'm very happy where I am. It would take a LOT to pry me away.

Understandable. Been a boring day. Got everything set up to hydrovac and change a wellhead, it’s taking forever. Easy money, long boring day.

Rebuilt some air valves for tongs. All we did today. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Now we’re heading back in and idk what to do for the remainder of the day.

Back in the saddle in the wonderful North Dakota oil patch. It’s flatbedding at least and will probably end up moving into a winch truck hopefully in the next few months.
