Ladies and gentlemen we are back. After my first full weekend off since starting we are back at... kind of.
Decisions were made to idle trucks until the deep cold moved out. Got in this morning and it’s DEF problem after DEF problem. Mine was completely derated and will probably have to be forced through a regen or require more serious attention.
The truck I got in to replace mine required a regen, so yeah. There’s that.
All in all, it’s another day in this patch of Tundra known as the Bakken.
If I ever buy a truck, especially for here, it will be pre emissions, no doubt. Although I will say when regen issues aren’t happening my truck is wonderful.Last edited: Feb 11, 2019
cke, beastr123, PoleCrusher and 1 other person Thank this. -
I found that covering the grill completely and running the idle up to 1100 would get your engine up to temp enough to let you idle for 12 hours without having to do a regen before getting to work in the morning.cke, SavageMuffin and Oxbow Thank this.

I think we have some grill covers at work, they’re not completely covering though. I need to put a cover on mine.cke Thanks this.

Early morning, I love when the road is like this. Winter isn’t even over yet and I’m already ready for next winter to get here.
This isn’t the end game though. Feels like I went backwards, but I don’t think I did.
Went from getting into OS/OD stuff OTR to legal oilfield stuff on a 48’ flat and sometimes buildings on a step. Plan is to be in a winch truck soon, moving bigger buildings and houses. At a minimum doing that through next winter, at best moving bigger.
Come the third winter, if I’m still here, same plan. If the wife is finished with college, they’ll go home... and I want to go further north. Except, as an O/O. That’s the end game, for now.Last edited: Feb 18, 2019
