I'm not sure if it was a legally mandated requirement, or just my company's policy. We just used 1 per 10,000# or part thereof and rounded up (with a minimum of 2, obviously). I don't know if coil racks even have a WLL or not.

Oh, and don't forget edge protectors in the eye of the coil so as not to gouge the steel with your chains.
-
I've never seen one marked.
-
Depends on the coil. I hauled one that they didn't care.
-
Right right. My favorites were the raw coils where they didn't even care if you tarped them!
-
I haven't been that lucky yet.

There are some, and I'm not sure why, but some coils that they have sitting outside in the mud. I've had them pick one out of the mud and set it on my trailer, and I ask if it needs to be tarped and they say yes! In that case, I think the main thing is they want to keep road salt off of them in the winter months.
But yeah, I've had a few where they didn't care. Company policy was to tarp them all no matter what the shipper said. Needless to say, in that case I didn't follow company policy.Chewy352 Thanks this. -
The one in my pic was not tarped. Picked up in Chicago and delivered to Kentucky.
I had done 4 or 5 other coils on regular flat before this one. But I was still not very experienced about all the ways to secure and transport them.

if being loaded by a crane, have the crane op. swing it wildly and then let it drop, where it lands is the correct spot!
, Is this the correct way?

Most black iron they don't care about the edge protectors, they are just going to slit, process, and beat it up a thousand times before it reaches the end user. I've go a load going to a place on Monday that is usually 15-22 standup slits banded together in odd sizes all bunched together in the wagon. I'll snap a pic. I'll haul 48k singles all day long that's a walk in the park.
