If I could only give one piece of advice, it would be to read every sign...especially off ramp speed signs..

Two and a half years in I still read them all.. I also don’t listen to the stereo and roll my windows down before I do a backing maneuver..

    In short, eyes wide open.

Both the main Truck specific GPS manufacture have this down pretty good... BUT they are NOT foolproof... Things are ever changing and they don't always update in a timely manner.

I use a Rand McNally 740 TND... And only once has it put me into a place I shouldnt have been... It was a weight restricted bridge. There were a few other places its routed me that were REALLY tight... Tight enough I had to do some fancy maneuvering to get in and then back out... But not impossible

Your job is NOT to get to your destination safely today.

Your job is to make sure EVERYBODY AROUND YOU gets to their destination safely today.

I'm a new driver. I agree on not rushing. Taking your time. Get out and look for sure. I tell myself not to get over confident. If there is any doubt about something than don't try it.

Wait til you have <8 hours drive avail before you take your 30. A good clock setup is (avail drive time<avail on duty<time til break). Gives you maximum flexibility.
