I love Colorado. As long as it's light snow. I do the skinny roads too. Utah, Idaho as well. But yeah when the snow is heavy, you can't make money. You have to be so slow might as well just wait to drive after the plow passes. And forget the skinny roads then.

I don't like em' in the summer either. Beautiful, scenic, worth seeing......just don't like driving them for a living! When you get paid by the mile.... "Pretty" and "Scenic" don't show up on your paycheck:D

Who do you drive for? Chain laws are in effect on I- 70 and others between September and April. Your company should pay for them.... If you can even find them in that part of the country right now! Contact your DM..... if he/she gives you a song and dance.... Tell him/ her to put the SAFETY DEPT. on the line. You'll get it taken care of

If you don't carry chains in Winter get ready to pay Colorado, Oregon, Washington some hefty fines. I think Colorado fines are $500-600-ish. If not having/using chains causes a wreck or blocks a road add the vast amounts they will add to pay to cover the cost of tow trucks, emergency responders, etc.

Tire chains can be rented or bought. Colorado requires 4 drive tires to be chained and they don't require any on the trailer. It's better to use 4 chains on the drive axels (outside tires on both drive axles) and a set of one chain on the left and right outside tire of one of the trailer tandems. Chains are bought according to the size of the tires being used.

This diagram shows the most common tire chain pattern. The black tires in the diagram have chains installed. The white tires are tires with no chains. This diagram isn't the only legal way to chain. It is a pattern that will satisfy almost any state assuming you have a standard OTR truck and 53 foot trailer. Look at the 6th pic under

This info is from Oregon, you are in Colorado, but Oregon has a better diagram and I found it first. Oregon's rules work almost everywhere else I've been.
