Things to keep in mind, If you have a problem on the 2 lane between Bylthe and Needles, there is virtually no services, it's a dangerous , narrow, rod with lots of soft shoulders, you pull off in the wrong place and thats it your done, and if your lucky you might have cell service. If your going to make the cut up from 10 to 40 better to do it on the AZ side, although going thru Havasu can be a bit challenging at times. If your intent on running 40, bst option is to cut north wy back in Texas into Amarrillo.
Also just a opinion, worth just about as much as the screen it takes up.
If you run a different way every trip, you will find very little difference in time and mileage, comes down to what type of driving you like best. Weather and trffic information is worth considering before you decide.
With me depends on mood. Sometimes running 10 east and west thru the outskirts of Los Angeles using the 210, other times I cut up the 215/15/138 across 58 and 46, seems best other times I just want to stop in Amarillo and get a steak on the way, So really comes down to moods. Take the route that keeps you safe and happy, and sometimes the long way home is the shortest way home, it all is a great big variable, choose the one to make you happy today. Drive down the rod just pick'in n grinn'in.
