Well it looks like my area of the country is really beginning to slow down. I contacted many local otr companies today just to discover half of them were laying drivers off, and the other half, just not hiring. I did have a really good conversation with a dispatcher who took a lot of interest in me for a possible dedicated route. Sadly .27 cpm really killed my enthusiasm though. I was hoping for a little more.
Brinkj23, thanks for the encouragement about Swift, I just may end up driving for them. If they'll take me? I'm gonna continue working the local market for the rest of this week , to ensure I'm not overlooking something. If I end up with Swift, will I get better cpm's pulling flats? Even if they don't, I'll still ask for it.
I just found out that my 14 years of local class A experience means nothing to Crete Trucking. I have no OTR experience. She said I needed to back to school.![]()

If you run at a brisk pace, and your DM is on the ball how many miles can reasonably drive per week?
-
Airlines - local driving means exactly nothing to any of the OTR companies. You will probably need a refresher before they'll hire.
as for miles a week, 3500 or so should be easily doable, if all things come together well -
I dont know but seems like most of the Swift flatbedders keep pretty busy, haul a lot of vehicles or daimler chrysler. Also you will dead head a lot more then us van, alot of swifty flats will deadhead anywhere from 200 to 400 miles for a load all paid of course.
