Some shippers don't give a bol.

Usually it's oilfield stuff. Or something. But occasionally you get an actual shipper. With miscellaneous stuff. Or whatever.

    Sometimes they want a copy.
    Sometimes.

Its not that expensive to just get your interstate authority.
$300 for the application for the DOT/MC. $36 for UCR.
Truck plates which you need anyhow.
2290 which is $550 annually, need it anyhow...
Depending on what insurance you need, you could be as low as $300/mo for interstate.
    Cargo insurance to $100,000 etc.

The insurance really is a minor expense, your fuel and maintenance are what are going to be your top line items.

Don't limit yourself to 150 miles, if someone really needs something moved 500 miles and is offering you 5 grand to do it then you are going to be a really sad panda when you can't do it.

As far as logs go, just use electronic paper logs. Motive has a good app for it. Doesn't tie into your trucks ECM. Legally they call them ERODS, electronic record of duty status.

    Vampire Thanks this.
