Cat all day everyday over cummins, cummins and car both are around the same price for repairs. Friend has 2007 t600 with a cat c15 over 1.2mil miles on it, he gets around 6.8mpg on heavy loads, and it still hasn't been overhauled.

Ok. It's CAT. Why? Your town has a hill that wont quit by the river which then fills up with cars every morning. It's NOT more horse, 500 cat = 500 Detriot = 500 Cummins etc. But rather CAT knows how to get to high horse in a hurry. But like a cheetah it's panting to stay there and may not have the stamina. Detroit does. Cummins is a one RPM engine. All of it or none of it.

Buying a truck is a big deal, this industry is depressed right now with low freight volume. I am gambling that will begin to finally change once Daddy O is sent packing. (Ugh...) Maybe give McAliester a call and ask them how many decks or trailers do they need?

The only thing about the freight shakers is poor material it's made out of but heard the new petes have the same cheap materials inside too seen like a 07 Pete looked like my 07 shaker door messed up dash and all could be the rails beating them up too

These rail yards will soon end up being used to go off-roading

My exp with cummins has been pricey. But that might be because of the emissions crap.

All the kitty's I've driven have been exceptional, save one in a 1992 freightliner....but the owner had the engine turned up so hot it blew injector lines.

    Bigrigmayo93 and x1Heavy Thank this.

I read it, the title says it all for me - first truck.

I posted for others too, not just you bucky. This isn't just about you.

Yeah I don't know a #### thing about trucks, been doing this for a little bit and keep giving advice that works. When people create a thread about their first truck and say what they want, that normally means they are clueless to a good process on how to actually buy one, which is what I stated what is the start.

You've already made up your mind, and you think this is a forum where we need to shut up because you don't like the answer, so advising you may be useless.

But to answer your question - Cummins.

    Why?

Because they are still making engines.

They are cheaper to maintain than Cat

AND you don't have to chase parts.

    These are three big factors.

Detroit is also good, cheap and reliable.

My experience with cat seems to be frustrating, by either the service centers not fixing the problem right or having to chase obscure parts that maybe possibly could fix the problem.

AND by the way, it doesn't matter what model truck you have - they are all the same - the drive train is completely separate issue and the model is just the wrapper around it. Seeing this is you FIRST truck, you seem to miss that point.
