First US face transplant revealed

The recipient of the first US almost-total face transplant has appeared before the media for the first time. Connie Culp, a 46-year-old mother-of-two was left without the middle section of her face after her husband shot her in 2004.
Ms Culp, whose identity had been previously withheld, paid tribute to the donor family at a news conference.
Surgeons at a clinic in a Cleveland, Ohio, replaced 80% of Ms Culp's face with that of a dead female donor.
"I guess I'm the one you came to see today, " she told reporters but added that "I think it's more important that you focus on the donor family that made it so I could have this person's face."
The transplant is only the fourth to be carried out. Two operations have been conducted in France and one in China.

Wow, incredible to see her before and after surgery pictures. This operation really gave her her life back.

I have never understood adults who stare at someone who has been disfigured. I have seen it happen many times.
They are morons.

I am very glad for her
How courageous to be faced with a life like hers with such a good attitude

Darlin', adults stare MORE than the kids do....but it is the kids who stare, and ask QUESTIONS.
The questions don't offend, but the ugly glares/stares do, when they are not accompanied by questions to the person being looked at...

I saw her before and after pix in our local (so called)newspaper. All I could think of was 1) Oh that poor soul, and 2) thank GOD they were able to help her.

I've had two friends who were terribly disfigured. One in an ATV accident, and one in a vehicle fire. Both of them went through hell.

Nobody should have to endure certain things.
