Use whatever gear will need minimum clutch slipping and zero throttle application until the clutch is fully engaged.

    Brickwall and NewTruckerJose Thank this.

I always start of on “1st” gear empty or loaded like I mentioned before. I just go thru the low gears fast. You will get more life out of the clutch the less it’s working. But I own my truck. Most company drivers couldn’t care less of any wear.

That’s great advice. I want to own my own truck soon so I want to get into good driving habits. Thank you.

You start out in 1 gear if loaded maybe 4 if empty. You start out in the gear you can get rolling at idle. The engine has enough torque at idle to pull. You don't slip it like in a car.

I would also say at 900,000+ miles the clutch was probably already shot anyway. They last about 500,000 I would say, some more and some less.

I thinks that’s my problem, I learned to drive in a manual tranny. So slippin the clutch comes natural to me

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
