Oh, *absolutely*. Especially that crowd I saw at Werner's the other day. 22 Men, 6 teeth. All watching a soap opera.

As for OTR companies.. I don't recall where I said it - but look for companies that offer to train you. They'll more than likely hire you out of school. Then, winnow out the .. less desireable.

My personal recommendation would be Watkins & Shephard out of Missoula, MT. They have terminals here and there )I forget where, in CA(, and I hear the pay ain't bad. In fact, I've not heard a single complaint about the company.

I admit to a bias- I applied there and was accepted to their orientation. A bit of a personal nightmare caused me to not attend this most recent orientation, but I'm asking to attend the next. They may or may not let me. Their call.

Other than that, why not start local? Do that for a year or two, THEN try OTR.

(oh - it's only 3,000,000. Not even 3,000,000,000 people in the western hemisphere, y'know):biggrin_25522:

    This isn't China? :biggrin_2559:

That's what I get for multi-tasking...... I'm usually able to type while controlling my room full of boys........ must be losing my touch..... :biggrin_255:
I think califtrucker wants to go OTR........ I'm still not ready to give up a steady paycheck so I am just looking to be out this summer........

I figure I can get hired on as new driver after I get my license in a few weeks and then run as a "team" with a trainer for the summer......... I'm told if I leave on good terms in 2 or 3 months they won't even notice the difference...... so few drivers make it past 90 days anyway..... :yes2557:

Still haven't made up my mind exactly what I am doing......... imagine that...... a woman who can't make up her mind.... have you ever heard of such a thing?......... :biggrin_25522: :biggrin_2559:

Might even be tempted to go ugly early some nights, or daze.

*note to self* I like this poster's advice.
That's where I got a lot of education.
'Bout four years worth one day.
That'd be the day Schneider hired me when the NO APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED AT THIS TIME sign was prominently displayed in the window.
One of the better Big truck truckin' companies wanted ME! (? -- but not really. I already knew they needed me --- all I had to do was convince 'em.
As it turned out, sellin' myself was far easier than Big truck truckin' was -- at first)
    Go figure.

Don't forget to remind folks to also keep an open mind.
    One driver's greener pasture ---
could be another driver's leaking sewer pipe --
on the other side of the barbed-wire fence.
    Or, sumthin' like that.
    I forget.

Are you sure you wanna do that?
    I'm a pretty good shot. :smt063
    BULL'S ,....... uhhhh, EYE!
    Told ya! :yes2557:

    Wellll, shux howdy, Lurch!
Why dincha say hi (to me)? :biggrin_25516:

    YuP!
    That's what I'd do, too.
If I didn't want to, or could, pay for a better, truckin' school. -- then apply with the better companies.
    Why aim low?
Jumpin' from one bottom feeder company to another just doesn't make good sense, to me.

    There ya go, Cali!
    Research them.
I doubt Lurch would steer your tires in the wrong direction.

I'm thinkin' it'd be their loss NOT to putcher seat in a Big truck of their's.

I think that many would PREFER thatcha have OTR experience, but they can also, sometimes, make exceptions.
That's where being able to sell yourself would come in handy.
    Ya reckon. :biggrin_255:

    Numbers!
    Eastern Hemisphere --
    Western Hemisphere --
I don't use that part of my brain very much.
    ID doesn't like that though.

    But I digress
    ergo I ego ------------------ away.:biggrin_25526:

Nah - our food sticks with you a while. Though all bets are off if Hillary or Obama change their address to 1600

I'd say "mind", but... I might get hit

it's absolutely a preference thing. I find I'm of two minds, myself. I'm interested in local cuz I have a couple of teenage boys. I'm interested in OTR cuz I have a couple of teenage boys.

    Decisions, decisions!

I don't know about the OTR with a trainer, 2-3months, etc. While that's not normally a problem, I think that aspect relates more to trainees who go right to another trucking job. (Yes, I could be wrong. It's happened before. I think)

Might it make more sense to hit local - say, construction. Get experience there, and then seek a 'Casual" position?

Ok, I am NOT going there. No. Not even close. I may be crazy, but I am NOT stupid. Very.

    Only in my imagination.
Kinda boring if y'all ask me.
I prefer to be on my toes.
Mind changin' indicates a thought process.
What's not to like 'bout that?
    I wanna know
    doncha know. :biggrin_25525:

Excuse me, those are MY toes!

Well, it CAN indicate thought process. The problem is, it can also indicate NO thought process. So, when a mind changes, one has to ask: why? (gender is not relevant )

Now, indecision indicates a thought process. It's just a process with insufficient input. Kinda like Windows. That can be corrected.
