The doc cited has a good point. Helping people get treated for some of these easily corrected medical issues instead of rendering them unemployed is a good thing. I can also see merit in what this advisory board is trying to do. We all see these drivers that have no business ever passing ANY physical driving. They have their heart attacks and take out bridges and other motorist which gives us all a black eye. I often wonder if random physicals at the scale houses might be the way to go.

A few simple effective fixes for this.

Remove the junk food from the t/s convenience stores.

    Remove the fast food joints.

    Remove the buffets.

Cut the amount of food in an average dinner serving at a real truckstop restaurant.

6 months of eating healthy and most truckers will drop a lot of their weight. This is one industry where food consumption needs to be regulated by the government.

I know a lot of you will disagree with that.

    I couldn't really care less.

Our weight and health problems are loud and clear testimony that a lot of truckers have food consumption problems. The government needs to step in and take control of what truckstops and convenience centers sell or at least the way it is offered. The truckstops and convenience stores will not do so. They make too much money on keeping us trashed out and unhealthy. Since they won't do it, then they need to be made to do it...

It's plain from walking around any truckstop that those of us who are very overweight have a problem which we deal with in an apathetic way.

It's so simple to say that we dont need any regulation on that while we eat our twinkies and pizza and french fries. It is plainly evident that us overweight fat unhealthy truck drivers have no sense of self control. We are unable to or UNWILLING to eat healthy because of the convenience factor of junk food and fast food availability and our own stubbornness to do what needs be done. It's our addiction to food that keeps us from being healthy.

The government wants us to be healthy, then they need to step in and crack down on the cause, not the effect of unhealthy eating. Making the rules more stringent may need be done but they need to fix BOTH sides of the problem. Not just the drivers side.

    Jawohl!
Better yet, how 'bout these ADULT drivers take responsibility for themselves, instead of you mandating what they can and cannot eat?

leannamarie, dieselbear and wwfd1220 Thank this.

Are you serious? That is about the craziest thing I have ever heard of. There are so many things wrong with that, but I am truly speechless at the thought.:biggrin_2554:

You didn't read what I wrote or chose to ignore it.... Especially the part about the driviers UNWILLING to do what necessary. Thats where the problem lies. Drivers simply REFUSE to take care of themselves. Thats the cause of these new mandates and regulations. The problem lies directly on the drivers shoulders and the truckstops who refuse to offer healthy foods.

Its the mean ugly truth that nobody want's to acknowledge. Even those on this board so it seems and thats a shame. It's not about ME mandating what we should eat...it should be the responsibility of the government. Nobody wants to take responsibilty so that falls to the government. Such is the result of the Apathy that i mentioned in my original post
